Emoji no longer displayed in entry title on macOS

1Password for Mac 8.10.78 (81078043)
macOS 15.5

Not sure exactly when this started but quite recently the emoji that I use in my entry titles are no longer showing up. I can still see them for example in the Firefox extension.

Is this specific to my system or does this also happen to other people?

  • Thanks to the awesome troubleshooting help that I got privately through 1Password support (my first contact with them, very positive impression even though I'm just a private user, not a big business), I was able to determine that it's probably related to the fact that I have Lockdown mode activated on this machine and this Electron bug/behavior: https://github.com/electron/electron/issues/45837

As such it's not really an issue with 1Password in my eyes, and arguably intended behavior when running with Lockdown mode enabled (though intended by Chromium/Google). Therefore at least in my eyes the issue is resolved. If you're running into the same issue, then the options right now as far as I can see are: 1) Disable lockdown mode. or 2) Embrace your emoji-free life, knowing you're a teeny tiny little bit better secured against some potential attacks. #worth

Personally I'll be in the latter camp and whenever I need to reference the Emoji just open 1Password in Firefox. (I changed my profile picture here to one of the original SoftBank emoji to celebrate the occasion.)

Hi nome, thanks for reporting this. I'm sorry to hear the emoji aren't showing up for you!

Does anything show up in place of the emoji you expect to see, such as a small square icon? Does this seem to be occurring with one, or a few specific emoji? I'd also like to ask you to try creating a new test item in 1Password for Mac, then add a few emoji to the title. After saving can you see the emoji in the title?

    Thanks again!

      Hello Timothy,

if I understand correctly, this is not universal behavior on the Mac version?

Here's how it looks in my case: 1) Nothing shows up in place of the emoji, just blank, no small square / no or other replacement character. But the blank character still has the regular width. 2) It happens with all emoji, even the most basic ones like ☺️. 3) If I create new items, I cannot see any emoji in the title.

Example 1. Here I create a new item with title: ABCテスト☺️ÄÖÜ

Example 2. This is the newly created item in the Firefox extension on the same computer

And on my Windows machine it also works (1Password for Windows 8.10.80 (81080023) on Windows 11 24H2):

That's why I asked specifically about the macOS desktop, as only there I have these issues. Unfortunately that's also my main platform so it's a bit irritating as I use Emoji with semantic meaning in titles of my entries.

Hi nome thanks for sharing those details!

To my knowledge this is not a universal issue, so that information is very helpful. Do you see any improvements if you lock and unlock 1Password for Mac? You can test this by opening the 1Password app, clicking your account or collection at the top of the sidebar and choosing Lock.

If you're still not seeing the emoji I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report from your Mac:

        Send a diagnostics report (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com
