Feature suggestion: "Recovery Codes" info type for records
Hi all,
Long time user of 1Password for families, and always enjoyed seeing new features come to the platform. I suspect this suggestion has already been put out there, but a quick search for "recovery codes" just found me a list of posts about recovery code difficulties for users accessing accounts.
Could we potentially add recovery codes as an information type to be stored in an individual record, much like Password, Date, Sign in with, etc? For the moment they are usually stored in Text fields for me since that can easily be made multi-line, but I would rather they be concealed like passwords for the same reason passwords themselves are. If it could auto-detect the formatting to break them out, and a means of indicating if one was used, would also be great. Sites often show these codes when setting up One-Time Password MFA, and they provide it in a variety of ways, so automatically being able to detect and sort them would be very helpful I suspect.
Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Hey deadflames this has been a request for a couple of years now. I agree this would be a great feature to add, from a security and ease perspective.
Until this specific feature is added, I have gone through several temporary fixes, from using the notes to a multi-line password field, etc. The current system I have sort of been using is having a secure note (Apple Notes) that is password protected/encrypted. This way, if for some reason I cannot access 1Password, I might be able to bypass the MFA with one of those codes.
Some of the other options I used:
- Copy/Paste the recovery codes as-is into the 1Password Login notes section
- Issue: Easy to copy/paste code when needed, but everything is easily visible
- Multi-line password field
- Issue: Secures from shoulder-surfing, but not easy to copy/paste single codes
- Separate password fields in a section MFA Recovery codes
- Issue: "Most secure" but adds extra up-front work, having to create a section and anywhere from 5-10 "password" fields for each backup/recovery code
- Attach the recovery codes as an attachment to the 1Password Login
- Issue: Good for storing the codes, but not practical when needing to use them
- Copy/Paste the recovery codes as-is into the 1Password Login notes section

Hi deadflames, thanks for taking the time to share your feature request!
I can definitely understand how a concealed field type to store recovery codes would be useful - along with the ability to autodetect them, sort the formatting, and indicate whether they've been used. I've filed your feature request with the team, including all of the details you've provided here.
