Format a Secure Note to include BOLD TEXT

I'm in the minority when it comes to notes. I want to ADD bold text, not remove it.

As a new user with a steep learning curve, I'm not using all the capabilities of 1 Password, but enough to make my life infinitely easier. I only have 152 entries and of those maybe 20 are notes. If you could tell me how to write the note to include an occasional word in bold, I will do so.

Thank you.

  • I have solved the mystery. (I think!) Markdown on Windows 11 desktop is only enabled in the first white field of a secure note. "The text here says: add any notes about this item here." I've filled it green.

For additional notes which contain filters such as text, URL etc.; these do not support markdown. I've shown it with a green arrow. I'm happy now.

Should there be more nuance or information. I'm all ears.

      Hi Tyrone2,

I'd never tried this, but can confirm I'm seeing the same behavior. Would you like Markdown to be available in other fields in a secure note? I'm happy to submit a feature request for that, if it's of value to you.

        1P_SimonH ,

I'm good for now. As long as it's available in at least one field, I'm happy. It may degrade the security to have it available in multiple fields, so for that reason, no.

Thanks for following this inquiry and commenting on it.

I am very hopeful that I'll catch on. I've bookmarked the support page. I looked for it a month ago, but it may have been in a list of returns. Eventually, everything I set my mind to, I accomplish. This will be no different.

Thanks for welcoming and answering my questions and showing you care about people using the product.

    AJCxZO,

Thank you. I will have to play around with this, because sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. It may be spacing errors on my part or something simple I've overlooked or don't understand quite yet.

I appreciate the links for reference.

      Thanks for the assist, AJCxZ0!

Tyrone2, if you'd like, I can also submit a feature request for additional formatting functionality for secure notes. Just let me know!

I experimented per AJCxZ0  suggestions and ended up with no functionality. This is curious because the way I discovered words in Notes COULD be bold was by accident. Therefore, I knew I had to find a way to repeat it.

Asterisk asterisk phone number asterisk, asterisk just showed everything as is. I'm not putting in the sign because here, it works GREAT!

The point is: for those of us who want just a little ability to make certain items stand out from a lot of text, it would be very helpful. It took me about a year to be convinced to use 1Password, and another year to scratch the surface of the functions. Using it as a repository for log ins, notes has made a significant improvement in my digital life. Now I can't imagine being without it.

        Thanks for the support.

Playing with it in a safe place such as a Secure Note is ideal. You can copy and paste my post* (thanks to how Markdown isn't properly handled on this platform) into a note to see how all of Markdown works, or doesn't in the case of unsupported features.

If you're not used to markup, i.e. typing text to change the presentation of text - of which Markdown is a very popular example, then it takes a little practice to become comfortable with the idea. With enough practice you may start preferring it over "rich" text editors.

I gave this a try and struck out. Not sure what I am doing wrong, but I believe I'll discover it eventually.

        Thank you.

Secure Notes supports basic (except links) and some extended Markdown, which enables you to use characters to specify the presentation of the text including making it bold.

This forum does not fully support basic or extended markdown.

      dear AJCxZ0

My notifications say you've replied today (6/25/2025) but I am not able to see it in this thread. Thanks for leading the way to my good enough discovery of that one field where it shows up reliably. I'm all set. I guess I should mark something as a solution, but it seems silly to give credit to myself.

Your key point is that extended Markdown is limited. Correct.  I just kept experimenting until I found that field. Have a good day!

Tyrone2, if it makes you feel better, I'll mark your post as the solution so you don't have to 😄
