Performance issues with 1Password for Mac 8.10.78 (desktop app)
I'm adding to this to avoid creating a new thread on what seems to be related. Mac OS 15.5 1Password 8.10.78, on various M series Macs. The app itself is incredibly slow. Even typing in any field takes a few seconds to appear, and there is a definite lag in any action whatsoever. Typing a large string of characters freezes the 1PW app. I had to remove the extension in Safari because it was making the browser so slow, it was unusable. Further, the small 1PW icon (Safari) in any field appeared to be dead. Clicking on it fails to do anything. The issue does not seem to be present in either Edge or Firefox, both of which extensions are working fine and without delays, although the actual app on the Mac desktop itself remains practically unworkable.
Hello folks,
After investigating the issue, it was found that customers who are running into recent performance issues with the 1Password for Mac desktop app were all using the Intel-based version of 1Password on an Apple Silicon Mac.
While our installer will install the correct version of 1Password for your Mac, you might have ended up with the wrong version if you migrated the 1Password app to your current Mac from an older Mac. Using the Intel-based version of 1Password on an Apple Silicon Mac isn't supported and it can result in performance degradation.
Our team can help verify that you're affected by this issue and then help you move over to the correct version. Please create a diagnostics report from your Mac:
Send a diagnostics report (Mac)
Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

I've been following this, and was reminded again how bad it was just now while using 1Password.
I didn't do anything but update to the latest version. Never sent a diagnostics report.
The normal speed is back with: 1Password for Mac 8.11.1 (81101001)
Did you find a way to get people to the correct version for Apple Silicon without manual steps? It seems like it.

PRT-16631-927. Mac-mini (M4). App has been running painfully slow with opening app and login and especially running a search. [Safari extension appears to run ok.] For the app, Get Info indicates 'intel'. Is there an update/fix or should I simply try to uninstall/reinstall?
Thanks for any help getting this straightened out.
Update: Tech sent me details for uninstalling/reinstalling the app. App now working as it should. Thanks very much!

It would have been SO beneficial to have gotten an alert as to the possibility of this! I have been suffering this slowness for so long and thought it was related to my >2500 items. And I was contemplating moving to the less-featured but responsive Passwords app. As a last gasp, I searched for any other post about it and came to this thread. Problem solved but when I think about how tedious it's been and that this wasn't deemed worthy of a broadcast... wonder how many others are out there just giving up on the app?

I'm sorry for the trouble! This is an issue that the team recently became aware of and a fix has already been coded to automatically migrate users who might be using the Intel-build on an Apple Silicon Mac to the Apple Silicon version. We hope to have this fix deployed in the next update or so and that should fix the issue for everyone who is affected.

I feel like this is something you should announce and email out to affected users. I've been frustrated with this for months and finally enough to post here but even posting on the forum didn't immediately notice this thread. You almost lost me as a customer due to this frustration, I was seriously considering just using Apple passwords in spite of much fewer features

I'm sorry for the disruption to your use of 1Password. I don't believe that we have the ability to see which build you're running from our end (making it impossible for us to just email the relative small number of Mac users who are running the Intel-build of 1Password on an Apple Silicon Mac). That being said, I'll pass along your suggestion to the team internally since I agree that communication in cases like this could be improved.
Our developers have coded a new feature to have the desktop app's updater move users running the Intel-build on an Apple Silicon Mac over to the Apple Silicon build and we're currently testing this feature in the beta version. Once it arrives in the stable version (hopefully in the next update or two), everyone affected by this issue will be automatically updated and the issue will be resolved for everyone.
For the time being, reinstalling the 1Password for Mac desktop app from our website should resolve the issue.

AGREE. Have been having this problem with my desktop Mac and cannot believe you didn't inform us. Have been frustrated for MONTHS and have been investigating other PW management tools.
And btw, not real impressed with the POV of the solution provided: "While our installer will install the correct version of 1Password for your Mac, you might have ended up with the wrong version if you migrated the 1Password app to your current Mac from an older Mac."
Be assured that I have NOT done any migrating. Seems your installer IS actually capable of installing INCORRECT updates. Grrrr.
/deep sigh
Will begin sending my diagnostic data to you. Hope it works.

I had the same problem on an M3 Mac. And only with the desktop app. The Safari browser extension responds to keystrokes without delay, but in the desktop app it sometimes took several seconds. After uninstalling and reinstalling, the problems were solved.

Look like I'm also running the Intel version of the app, even though I'm on Apple Silicon.
My account is cloud based, so not worried about losing data, but will do a full backup just in case.
Will shout back with result...

Now that I'm retired and boondocking full time, I took the time to run a diagnostics report.
1Password is from the mac App store, and the account is cloud based. Starlink Mini runs very fast, consistently, since I'm always in the open. Happy to test if needed. MacBook Pro M1, macOS always up to date, 1Password always up to date, and no third party crap (antivirus, etc.).
