Regression in 1Password Auto-Fill for Directory-Protected Links

Previously, 1Password reliably auto-filled credentials when accessing directory-protected URLs. However, for the past 10-14 days, this functionality has stopped working on both macOS Sequoia and Pop!_OS (Ubuntu 22.04).

Given that I frequently work with such URLs, this regression significantly impacts my workflow. Has there been a recent change affecting this behavior, and if so, is there a way to restore it?

Would appreciate any insights or workarounds.

    Hi Dave,

    That's exactly what I meant.

Previously, 1Password could seamlessly auto-fill credentials for htpasswd-protected pages and directories, including handling the next step with 2FA ... an incredible time saver.

However, this functionality no longer works on Chrome (134.0), Edge (134.0), and the latest Firefox. Historically, Safari was the primary browser with this issue, but now it affects these browsers as well.

I've been using 1Password for a long time and am quite familiar with its features, so this seems like a new regression rather than a user error.  I mean, it is this, 1Pass CLI and shell integrations that make the those other 1Password option less attractive.

Would appreciate any insights or potential fixes.

You can have 1Password autofill your credentials into a basic authentication window by saving the exact URL to the protected page in the Login item. Then, in the browser pop-up, click Open and fill to have 1Password open the page and fill your login credentials.

Is that how you were filling your login credentials before? Or some other way? Let me know if this method isn't working for you anymore.

        Hello, Dave.

As mentioned before, we are I.T engineers, understand how authentication and 1Password works, have been using the same workflow for years and didn't change anything. Wouldn't have brought this up if the change was not detected.

        Thanks

  • Hello zondi! 👋

I'm sorry that you're running into an issue when filling your login credentials on Pop!_OS and macOS. By "directory-protected URLs" do you mean a website directory that is protected using a basic authentication prompt like the following:

Let me know if I misunderstood. If I have that right then filling a login into a basic authentication prompt is working for me in Chrome on macOS when I follow these steps:

    1. Navigate the the website until I see the basic auth prompt.
    2. Click the 1Password icon in the toolbar.
    3. Click the appropriate login item and then click Autofill

So that I can better understand the situation can you tell me the following:

    1. Are you using the same steps that I've provided above?
    2. Which browser are you using?
    3. Which version of 1Password in the browser are you using: How to keep 1Password up to date in your browser

I look forward to hearing from you.

    -Dave
