Support for Zen browser
Hi!
There's this new browser called "Zen browser"
It's based on Firefox but the 1password extension doesn't work with the desktop app
1Password Version: Not Provided

Hello everyone!
Thank you all for the continued feedback! For security reasons, the 1Password desktop app will by default only connect to supported browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc. If you're using a Mac then you can add Zen Browser as an additional browser to the desktop app:
- Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
- Click on 1Password next to the in the menu bar.
- Click Settings.
- Click Browser.
- Click Add Browser and choose your browser from the Applications folder.
Adding additional browsers is currently only available for the Mac and Linux. We're not regularly adding new supported browsers individually since that isn't a long-term and sustainable solution however I've shared your requests to support Zen Browser with our product team. We hope to bring the custom browsers feature to 1Password on other platforms (like Windows) in the future.
For the time being, you may still be able to use 1Password in Zen Browser on your Windows PC but you'll need to unlock it separately from the desktop app using your account password.-Dave

Literally made an account just to add to the list of people clamoring for this feature. The fact that there still isn't feature parity between Mac and Windows is incredibly frustrating. Arc is listed as an approved browser, and TBC has essentially ended support for it outside of Chromium updates. Zen is actively being developed and improved, and is the clear replacement.
If you're not able to give a timeline on when custom browser support will be launched for Windows, at least add Zen as a trusted browser so ex-Arc users aren't left out to dry by both TBC and 1password.- 1P_Dave

Thank you for the feedback. I understand your need to be able to use app integration with 1Password and Zen Browser on Windows. Hopefully we'll have more news to share in the future.

Just wanted to drop in and say I would really love this feature to be implemented! I've used Zen full time for the last 6 months and everything has been perfect except for 1password!
Frankly its making me rethink my family subscription since it's so disruptive and isolates the browser from the desktop app 😞. It might be time for me to move on, because I don't plan to drop Zen.- TimG1P

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I can definitely see the benefits of adding official support for the Zen browser and have forwarded your feedback to our team. Although I can't make any promises, every request is reviewed by the team and taken into consideration when planning the roadmap ahead.

With Chrome breaking uBlock Origin in a couple of months, I will finally be making the switch to Zen browser. The question becomes, will 1password support Zen by then? If not, I will finally make my jump to BitWarden after being a paid subscriber to 1password for quite a few years.
Will you support Zen browser? Will you bring feature parity to Windows for custom browser support? If not soon, you lose a long-time customer and promoter of your product.

Hey faser -- the current status remains unchanged.
The team still plans to bring the custom browser feature to Windows, but we don’t have a specific timeline to share. I know that’s not the answer you’re hoping for, but it’s the most accurate update available right now.As soon as there’s news to share, we’ll post an update here.

If you have no timeline then you absolutely need to change your policy of not approving individual browsers anymore until custom browsers are supported on Windows and Linux. Telling people that they can use a feature that only exists on one of the many platforms you ship clients for is simply not a solution.

I understand that maintaining a list of trusted browsers is unsustainable, and the ability to add browsers yourself is certainly the right move.
That said, not maintaining the list while the Additional Browsers feature is only available on a single platform is not a good move. Part of the reason I (and I'm sure others) choose 1P is the seamless integration between browser and desktop application, so just suggesting "don't use that" is not great.

This fix has been working well enough for a while - I'm not offended by needing to manually link a browser that's still advertised as in beta.
But over the last few days the extension has refused to connect to the 1password binary because "a newer firefox version is available". It seems the app is now confused and thinks I'm actually running firefox but it fails some sort of validation check.
Zen has already updated to build on the latest firefox (136.0.1 as of March 11).

The same issue here: extension reporting a connection problem. For now, I've managed to fix it by removing Zen.app from the authorized browsers and then adding it back in.

Just decided to give Zen a try and stumbled on this issue. It's sad to know that there's a work around for Mac and none for Windows.

Yeah it's a real bummer. I switched to 1password in October but after seeing how this issue has been handled I've decided to cancel my subscription. I'll keep using it until my billing period is up but if they can't keep the experience consistent across platforms by then I'll move on.

The response here is that adding specific browsers isn't a long-term solution. I will agree that it isn't a long-term solution. However, given that this feature request for parity between mac and windows has been open for 2 years, I think that the people here are not asking for adding Zen to be the long-term solution.
We are asking you to add Zen as a compatible browser as a short-term solution until you figure out how to get the trusted browser feature for windows to work.
Please. Give us a short-term solution. At the very least, give us an actual concrete timeline as to when windows will get the trusted browser feature. If you can't give us the latter, you really should give us the former.
Also, please remove the "solved" mark. The problem is not solved for windows.
