The app icon is not appearing on my iphone after downloading from the app store.

I downloaded the app from the app store, opened the app. Then closed it. No icon on my iPhone screen. Went back to the app store, and the download option isn't there, rather it says open. So its on the phone somewhere. But without the icon, it isn't very useful.
