Trusted Browser Support - Windows
Good Day! Is there any word on when trusted browser support will be available for the Windows version? I am using Floorp as my browser (I wanted a Firefox/Gecko based browser that supports Workspaces) but the Desktop app doesn't integrate with Floorp, nor is there any way to add it as a trusted browser.
It appears this feature to add a trusted browser is only available for Mac, so I am curious when it will be made available for Windows as well?
1Password Version: 8.10.26
Extension Version: 2.15.1
OS Version: Windows 11
Browser: Floorp
Thank you for the requests and for the feedback! The team hopes to build a secure way to use unsupported browsers with the 1Password for Windows desktop app and I'll update this thread once there's more news to share.

Why is this marked as having a solution? "The team hopes to build a secure way to use unsupported browsers" is in no way a solution. There are very few browsers that still support manifest v2, like Floorp. So how about you get your priorities in the correct order and get this fixed? Other than fixing a Zero-day exploits, this should be your top priority.

Welcome to the community! I've let the team know that you'd also like to see the ability to add additional custom browsers to 1Password for Windows, thank you for the feedback.
Marking a post as a solution to a thread doesn't mean that the issue/request itself is solved or closed. It's a way to highlight the most up-to-date answer for anyone who stumbles onto the thread in the future so that they don't have to look through the entire thread for the latest information.

Hi. I would like for this to be implemented too. Windows needs it. Arc, Zen, Floorp are just a few.
Whats the priority of this? It is still being working on?
I ask because the last beta update for windows has 4 "cosmetic" bugs and 1 functionality. I'm not saying that these are not important, but it feels that this feature request got discarded.
I love 1Password, there is not a single competitor that has all of its functions, I really want that they continue improving and bring this requested feature to their clients.

Welcome to the community! The team still hopes to bring the custom browsers feature to Windows in the future but our Windows developers have had other work that they've been busy working on for the Windows platform.
I did want to mention that Arc should work out of the box with 1Password for Windows, are you not seeing 1Password for Windows and 1Password in Arc unlock at the same time?

Forget about it, many people have been asking for more than 2 years now. Even this thread is 2 years old.
I have given up that 1Password is actively working to keep their customers happy.
Like you said, all they recently released are minor bug fixes or cosmetic changes. Nothing mayor had been added like this feature that people are begging for years.
And the worst of it all is that they are not giving any details on when it’s coming, if it’s coming or why it’s taking so long. All Dave has to say for years now is: “Thanks for your suggestion, I will pass it onto the developers.” It’s like beating a dead horse, nothing will happen.

Thanks again for the feedback. I know that it can be frustrating when the specific feature that you'd like to see isn't released. Our team receives requests for many different features and those features are prioritized based on many different factors: our existing product roadmap, available development resources, and customer demand.
While the team does hope to release additional custom browser for Windows in the future, our Windows development team has been busy working on other enhancements for the Windows platform. Here is some recent major work that is just starting to be rolled out:
- Beta Release: New MSIX Installer for 1Password for Windows
- Beta Release: 1Password now supports Windows 11 Passkeys!
You can also find more work documented in our release notes (with more to come in the future): Release Notes-Dave

I saw this was kicked down the road again 3 months ago, and this after 2 years of "we're working on it," which makes me think the 1Password team has no intention of ever releasing this. I would prefer an honest answer, whether it be "There's a technical issue with XYZ that creates a potential security breach we are not comfortable with allowing" or "We don't know when or if this feature will be worked on as we have other priorities we want to focus on" or something else. This constant kicking it down the road nonsense is insulting, and nobody is buying it. The fact there's a solution for both Mac and Linux and, according to Wavebox's documentation, there USED to be an option for this in the Beta release of Windows (https://wavebox.io/kb/1password-extension/) is frustrating, to say the least. The Trusted Browser support allows other developers, in my case, Wavebox, to integrate tightly with the Desktop version, allowing Windows Hello unlocking just like in "standard" browsers such as Chrome.
Can we get a REAL update from the 1Password team on either of these?
A) There's a technical or security issue we don't forsee being able to overcome therefore this is on an indefinite hold
B) We have many other features we want to work on first and therefore we have no idea if or when we'll get to this feature request.- 1P_Dave

Thanks for reaching out. Other important work that needs to be completed for the Windows platform has so far needed to be prioritized for our Windows developers. The team still hopes to build the custom trusted browsers for Windows in the future.

Wavebox should just work with the beta version of 1Password for Windows "out of the box". There's no need to add it as an additional browser. Ensure that you're using the beta version of the desktop app: Use 1Password beta releases
Let me know if that doesn't work.

I've noticed that the 1Password support page (https://support.1password.com/connect-1password-browser-app/) doesn’t list Wavebox as a supported browser, but you’ve indicated Wavebox can work with the beta version of 1Password for Windows.
If special accommodation is possible for Wavebox, could you please clarify why the same can’t be done for other browsers such as Zen, Floorp, and Perplexity Comet? Many users depend on alternative browsers for both productivity and privacy, so it would be incredibly valuable to allow either:
- The ability to add custom browsers as trusted within 1Password for Windows;
or - Officially adding Zen, Floorp, and Perplexity Comet, and maybe Arc on Windows to your list of supported browsers.
Can you explain what’s technically or otherwise blocking support for more browsers, and whether there is any plan or roadmap to enable this? Greater flexibility or native integration would really benefit many users, similar to what’s available on Mac and Linux.
- The ability to add custom browsers as trusted within 1Password for Windows;

Another 4 months have passed, and still nothing. No sign of the extra Browser options for Windows... We are waiting for years now, and all you can keep saying is "we are working on it" or "I will pass your concerns to the team".
Why can you not just give a feature like this some priority and have it released in 1-2 months. Many people want this, because this is not the only topic about this issue.

Mind-blowing that this issue is open for 2 years and the developers still don't have any ETA on when this feature will be implemented. I expect a lot more transparency from developers as a paying customer. It's very annoying to open the extension and enter my password every ten minutes to the point that I'm considering using alternative products.

Thank you for reaching out. I don't have an ETA to provide, the feature request is still open in the team's backlog but other work that needs to be completed for the Windows platform has taken priority.

Are you continually closing your browser or restarting your device? As long as your browser stays open, you can choose how often you're asked for your password by changing your auto-lock settings: Manage auto-lock in the 1Password browser extension

Thank you for suggesting configuring lock time, this indeed does solve my problem! Still, a full app integration would be nice to have.

So you're not able to properly support more than a small selection of browsers for the most used desktop OS in the world, when you're making software with the main purpose of filling passwords (typically done on a desktop OS).
I really hope this is your top priority at the moment, 1P_Dave? Because I will be looking to alternatives if this isn't fixed by summer.

I enjoy coming back to this thread occasionally and checking the status. I'm dismayed that this feature still isn't implemented, but I'm encouraged by how many people have commented.
I'm hoping to see this implemented soon. 1password is a beast, so I'd really like to have this one feature implemented to eliminate this frustrating situation.

Thank you, 1P_Dave - hope it's appropriate to mention you there and indicate I am looking for this feature. Additional info in case it's useful for your tickets, teams, etc. (I understand it may not be):
This is an accessibility feature for me. I have cognitive disabilities that mean a break in my "flow" every time I need to "connect" the login will be disruptive. (I also want to say that, in contrast, when the "unlock with desktop app" functionality was first introduced, it was extremely exciting and helpful, so: good job!)
The lack of ability to trust additional browsers has, because of the previous concern, stopped my migration from one browser (Edge or Arc) to another (Floorp) twice in the past six months or so. Floorp is still my current browser of choice, if not for the missing "trust' link.
Thank you!

That is not a solution, that is a deferment. Why pretend and mark it as such?

+1 on this too. Since this feature for Mac was tested out over a year ago and the earliest Linux discussion was in 2021 this not being in Windows is a bit strange. At minimum, there has been over a year to think about this. Clearly its a priority for other platforms but not for Windows. Is there something technical that is stopping this, because from the logs all I can see is it is checking the signature of the exe against, probably, an internal allow list.

Since I don't run chromium based browsers I would guess its the same for them. For those who want to find the logs its in AppData/Local/1Password/logs/BrowserSupport. Surely you can just have a toml file (since this is written in rust) that defines the exe's I am happy with not checking the signature of and just jump over the signature check since the 1Password extension and the app are already communicating
