Thanks for your feedback on this. You're absolutely right about 1Password in the browser needing the ability to connect to 1Password.com in order to save items. What may work in this case is generating your SSH Key using 1Password for Mac, and then copying and pasting the public key into your GitLab settings.

We're continuing to investigate situations where corporate proxies or middleware result in the behavior you're seeing, so thank you for your patience on this.
