Community password 62 character maximum limit
Seems kinda funny to me that the password manager I use ubiquitously to create 100 character password only allows me to create a 62 character password for the community forum (and doesn't signal that in it's password creation hint popover).
Clearly this is an active choice by someone, so I'd be interested in hearing from 1Password themselves why that choice felt like a good idea.
I spend a lot of time battling sites that:
- don't publish their password restrictions at all;
- allow you to create a password, but the login box then doesn't permit that number of characters;
- do publish password restrictions, but the restrictions don't match reality
- only allow super short passwords
It would be nice not to add 1Password themselves to that list of 'troublesome' websites :-)
On the upside, this WYSIWYG editor is delightful.
Thanks to everyone who reached out with feedback regarding password complexity and criteria and sharing valuable feedback as we’ve launched our new platform!
The team has worked quickly to address some of these requests and we’re rolling out the following updates around account passwords later today:
- The maximum password length will be updated to 125 characters.
Criteria for password will be simplified as follows:
- A minimum length of 15 characters
- Usernames should not be part of your password
- These criteria will be displayed to users creating a new password
We’ve consulted with the 1Password security team to make sure these requirements align with industry best practices.
Keep sharing your valuable feedback. We really appreciate it!

Seconded. Not just a poor experience for 1Password, but for any forum. Problems include
- going against current best practices for passwords with mostly arbitrary constraints,
- providing that list of as a modal only visible while in the input field,
- failing to include the one most important constraint which limits the strength, i.e. maximum length,
- having a maximum length of only 64 characters (worse than the old forum),
- failing to set a maximum size on the input field,
- giving an annoyingly unhelpful error, "Password is too long",
- failing to recognise an accepted new password (requiring a second password reset), and
- being conspicuously unaware of your audience.
Since there appear to be other threads addressing other problems with the new forum, I'll not mention the various other problems with just the password reset and sign in process here.

When I edited my post and added a newline after the unordered list, the forum gave an error,
