To quote Benjamin Franklin: “If you would keep your secret from an enemy, tell it not to a friend." Okay, but how about sharing a secret with an AI agent?

AI tools and agents are changing the codebase, reinventing existing developer workflows and empowering a whole new class of AI builder. This is incredible news for innovation and productivity, but it’s created a serious dilemma: how can IT and security teams make sure that their users and agents have access to the credentials they need, without adding too much friction to their workflows?

That’s why this month’s newsletter is all about sharing the secret to managing secrets. Read on for some very exciting announcements from 1Password around developer and AI security.

Enjoy!

1Password is now the trusted access layer for OpenAI Codex

Coding agents like Codex are now writing and shipping production code, but the credentials they depend on are often stored insecurely in scripts, repos, and .env files, creating visibility and governance gaps for security teams. The 1Password Environments MCP Server for Codex issues credentials to the agent just-in-time, scoped to each task, so access is controlled, auditable, and never exposed to the model.

The integration also helps teams detect hardcoded secrets in existing code, move them into 1Password, and replace them with secure vaulted references, giving admins stronger control without slowing down developer workflows.

See how your team can reduce secret sprawl, streamline developer workflows, and bring more control to Codex-powered development.

The unmanaged stack: Governing SaaS apps and AI tools outside SSO

Webinar Date: May 21, 2026 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET

SSO only covers a fraction of your access surface. Shared logins, shadow SaaS, and AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, and Cursor are going ungoverned, untracked, and invisible to IT.

With 1Password EPM and SaaS Manager, you can bring that unmanaged layer under control. See every app, credential, and OAuth connection your identity stack is missing and understand which of these pose the greatest risk.

Join us live tomorrow to see it in action.

How OpenAI is securing AI agents in production

When agents access sensitive systems, authentication alone isn’t enough to control what they do next.

In episode 1 of Zero-Shot Learning, OpenAI’s Agent Security Lead, Fotis Chantzis, joins 1Password CTO Nancy Wang and Google engineering leader Dev Tagare to break down what changes when agents act across your stack, and what it takes to control them in production.

Zero-Shot Learning is a podcast for AI builders, where the engineers behind today’s leading AI systems share how they’re designed, shipped, and secured.

Oracle Red Bull Racing cut wind tunnel recovery time by 97% with 1Password

Oracle Red Bull Racing operates under a $215 million cost cap and FIA Aerodynamic Testing Restrictions, making every minute of wind tunnel testing precious. Every recovered minute translates directly into aerodynamic development and contributes to helping their cars go faster. But scattered secrets embedded in code and configuration files slowed delivery and limited automation.

By creating a single, trusted control plane for credentials across Kubernetes and simulation workflows, Oracle Red Bull Racing kept secrets in sync with 1Password developer tools. A redeploy process that once took an expert 60 minutes, now happens with the press of a single button. That’s more than an improvement, it’s an operational breakthrough.

"Now the people closest to the problem can act immediately, with guardrails, so we're not trading speed for risky shortcuts."

Nimesh Kotecha, Group Head of End User Services, Oracle Red Bull Racing
