Who should be an Owner?
An Owner, is any member of the Owners groups in 1Password. By default the person who started the account is an Owner, but this can be changed at any point, it is also possible (and recommended) to have more than one Owner on an account. There must always be at least 1 owner on an account.
Owners are super-admins in 1Password. They have all the same permissions as Administrators plus more (see table below). There are also some additional privileged functions which only they can perform.
- Only Owners can add other users to the Owners group.
- This is why it’s recommended to have more than one Owner on an account.
- Owners can manage every shared vault in 1Password
- This ensures that Vaults never become orphaned in 1Password and there is no data lost as a result.
- We at 1Password will only disclose account information or perform certain requests for Owners.
- Owners cannot be scoped to unlock 1Password using SSO. This ensures someone at your company will always have access to your account even in the event of an issue with your Identity Provider.
