Question

1Password autofill stopped working in Chrome for Android

Device & Software:

  • Google Pixel 6 (Android version 15)
  • Chrome Browser (version 136.0.7103.125)
  • 1Password app (version 8.10.78)

My Issue:

1Password autofill has completely stopped working in Chrome for Android. No dropdown suggestions appear on any website, and autofill is non-functional.

Update: Other mobile apps effected:

  • myOdeon
  • PayPal
  • Amazon
  • ... Seem anything with form fields.

Steps taken to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Toggled Android's preferred autofill service between Google and 1Password multiple times
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled 1Password app
  • Factory reset device
  • Verified 1Password is set as default autofill service in Android Settings > Passwords & accounts

Still no joy.

Something else of note: Over the past few months, I've noticed 1Password authentication frequently expires without warning. When this happens, autofill silently fails across all apps until I manually open 1Password and re-authenticate. There's no proactive notification or prompt to re-login - I only discover the issue when autofill doesn't work during login attempts.

Is there a known issue with 1Password authentication persistence on Android?.... and has anyone experienced similar silent authentication failures?

As far as I am concerned autofill should work consistently, and if authentication expires, 1Password should proactively prompt for re-authentication rather than silently failing.

Hi,

I am experiencing similar issues:

Samsung Galaxy S20
Android 13

Tried some things with setting flags, enabling/disabling Google autofill, but none worked reliably or even at all.

Having differences between using it in Chrome browser directly and in the "browser" appearing when using the google-search widget.

Sometimes it also provides the correct credentials in the bar above the keyboard, but when clicking on it nothing happens, except that the menu bar disappears. Sometimes (eg on steampowered.com), it fills only the password box, bot not the username.

All in all very unsatisfying. B**den worked much better in that regards

@1P_Dave I am having the same problem since like 2 Weeks. As I left my previous company, which had a business acount, I now need to make a family subscription. I will not do that, if autofill is not working in Android.

I have tried the steps you're suggested, it still does not work. The autofill suggestion is flashing briefly below the field, but disappears again rightaway.

I have sent the Diagnostics Report to the support Email Address. The Support Ticket ID is MMB-81224-528.

Pleeease fix this, it is completely useless like this.

It also stopped working on the phone of my wife, which is also an Android..

Thanks

Same issue for me both on a pixel 9 Pro xl and a pixel tablet. Diagnostic report created and sent, id BDR-89956-547

Originally had above keyboard and Google account set to autofill using external service and 1P set as the autofill service.

Absolutely infuriating! Tried

  • Rebooting
  • Killing 1P app
  • Changing back and forth the autofill settings
  • Changing suggestion location
  • Ensured I was logged into 1P before trying to autofill
  • Checked the text correction settings (on)

The suggestion bar is totally dead and nothing ever shows

I got the same response as @okbrown and it's strange because the advice is to autofill using Google, which appears to contradict the instructions here

https://support.1password.com/android-autofill/

Is currently working, but the behaviour had been so erratic over the past few months that I fail to see how it's simply a binary setting that makes the difference.

Hello folks,

I'm sorry that you're running into issues when filling login credentials into Chrome on your Android devices. Our team is currently tracking a couple of issues where autofill won't work correctly in Chrome on Android in certain situations and the issues have been reported to Google. For the time being, try these steps to get things working:

  1. Make sure that autofill is setup correctly for your device: Set up Autofill
  2. Open Chrome.
  3. Click the three dots ( ⋮ ) on the top right, then tap Settings > Autofill.
  4. Tap Autofill on Chrome or Autofill on Brave, then choose Autofill using another service and tap Restart Chrome or Restart Brave if prompted.

If you still run into filling issues then try changing autofill prompts to appear above supported keyboards:

  1. Open and unlock the 1Password for Android app.
  2. Tap the account/collection icon on the top right.
  3. Tap Settings > Autofill.
  4. Tap Display autofill prompts then tap Above supported keyboards.
  5. Open your device settings, then tap Apps > 1Password > Force Stop.
  6. Reopen the 1Password for Android app

If you are using GBoard as your keyboard, perform these additional steps:

  1. Open your device settings
  2. Tap Additional Settings
  3. Tap Languages and Input
  4. Tap Manage Keyboards, then tap GBoard
  5. Tap Text Correction, then toggle Show Suggestion Strip on.

If that doesn't work then you might be running into an issue that we hope to get resolved in the next update to 1Password for Android. Please send an email to support@1Password.com and include a link to this thread so that the team can help further with your particular device and situation.

Hey Dave, I just got an email saying to do the opposite:

Please follow these steps:

Return to Settings > Autofill in the 1Password app.

Tap Autofill on Chrome or Autofill on Brave, then choose Autofill using another service and tap Restart Chrome or Restart Brave.

Could you please confirm?

Thanks

@bpenguin

Good catch! My post had a mistake which I've now edited and corrected. I'm sorry for any confusion.

So having been told to use Autofill with Google then 2 days later changed it back to other service, which then worked for 2 days, it's now stopped working again.

Several years ago I invested in a paid password manager for my family and picked what I understood to be the best, but this flip flopping is really frustrating, particularly when I think about the challenges of switching to another product.

Hi everyone,

I’m a member of the Community team at 1Password and wanted to jump in.

First, we know how frustrating it is when your password manager isn’t working. All of us working here also use 1Password, so we see the same bugs you do and want the experience to be as easy as possible.

Candidly, we don’t know yet if you’re all running into the same problem or different ones. Some of you might be running into a 1Password bug, others an app-specific or Android bug, while others just have a configuration issue that we can get corrected.

To help us investigate this and get to the fastest resolution, please keep working with 1Password Technical Support over email so we can better track what’s going on. If you haven’t yet opened a support ticket, please contact us at support@1password.com so we can start working with you.

One last thing: We welcome feedback in the 1Password Community and it’s okay to share frustrations, but posts must still follow our community guidelines. Any posts that include profanity, threats, or aggressive language will be removed.

Thank you, everyone, for your patience and help with troubleshooting. We’re going to turn off additional responses on this thread and please keep working with our Support team!
