Question

1Password browser extension suggests a new password instead of an existing password for mailbox.org PGP decryption

When using mailbox.org with PGP-encrypted email, mailbox.org asks for a separate Mailbox Guard / PGP decryption password before displaying an encrypted message.

This is not the mailbox.org account login password. It is only the password used to unlock/decrypt PGP-encrypted email.

On Windows in a web browser, 1Password incorrectly treats this password field as though I am creating a new password.

Instead of offering the existing PGP/Mailbox Guard password stored in 1Password, the inline 1Password popup displays “Use Suggested Password” and generates a new password.

On Android, I access my email using FairEmail. When FairEmail prompts for the PGP decryption password, 1Password Autofill correctly allows me to select the existing stored password.

So the problem appears to be specific to the 1Password browser extension / field detection on mailbox.org webmail.

Platform: Windows
Environment: Web browser with 1Password extension
Website: mailbox.org
Affected function: Autofill / password-field detection
Field purpose: PGP email decryption password, not account login
