Broken Upgrade

I have been a happy user since 1Password 4. But the latest upgrade has broken a useful feature with passkeys. Until the release of 8.10.78 (which I’m currently running on my Mac Mini with Tahoe 26.6.2) I could go to a site where a passkey was saved, have the passkey link pop up on the right in my Chrome browser window, click and I’m logged in. Since the update, the only way to use a passkey (when it works) is to grab my iPhone, scan a QR code, get recognized, then click to load the passkey. Secure, maybe? Annoying extra steps, absolutely.

So how does one turn off this “feature” to go back to just using a userid and password?

Or does the upgrade to 8.12.34 fix that and other issues? Not that I would know because I am unable to install the update. Clicking on “Restart Now” does nothing, both directly in the program when the black bar shows up at the bottom of the screen nor in the window that pops up when checking for an update. I have quit the program and my machine has been restarted in the last day and nothing has changed. How does one fix this and install the update?

Fixed the problem by just downloading and installing the latest version. Still don’t know why Restart wouldn’t work, but it’s a moot point now. Thanks for looking in to this, though.

Hello @BruceH! 👋

I’m sorry that you’re running into an issue with passkeys when using 1Password. 8.10.78 is a very old version of 1Password, not updated since May 2025. It sounds like the update process isn’t working on your Mac which is where I’d like to focus first. I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your Mac:

Send a diagnostics report (Mac)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

With your email please include:

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here.  Thanks very much!
