Cannot use 1Password passkey in Ironfox

Hello. I am using Ironfox browser which is a forked one from Firefox, with privacy and anonymity hardened.

When I try to sign in using passkey to any websites, it says

"Unable to save passkey. For security reasons, 1Password did not save this passkey. The associated URL for this passkey does not match the selected app."

I believe this is because 1Password does not trust Ironfox.

Bitwarden does and it has a feature to add a custom trusted browsers or apps.

I wonder 1Password will stay with the current policies. Either allow user to add their apps at their own risks, or add Ironfox to the list this time.

Thank you for reaching out. On Android, 1Password uses an approved list of browsers for passkey support. The browsers you're using, Waterfox and IronFox, are not currently on that list.

We’ve recently released the ability to add additional browsers to the 1Password app on macOS, Windows, and Linux however this feature isn’t available for Android: Connect additional browsers to the 1Password app

While I can’t make any promises, I’ve filed a feature request on your behalf to have the team look into adding additional browsers, including those you’ve mentioned, to 1Password for Android.

1Password maintains it’s own list of approved browsers and I’ve filed a feature request to have our team look into adding Waterfox/Ironfox in the future. 🙂
