1Password in the Browser, both in Safari and Chrome never allow me to use Touch ID. And despite having 1Password app unlocked, it still will be locked in the browser, requiring my password.
Other members of my family group also have this same issue.

1Password Version: 8.10.27
Extension Version: 2.20.0
OS Version: macOS 14.3.1
Browser: Safari, Arc, Chrome

Hello @notnotjake! 👋

I'm sorry to hear that 1Password isn't working properly with your browser. Are you still able to unlock the desktop app using Touch ID? If you are then it sounds like communication between the 1Password extension in your browser and the 1Password for Mac app has broken down. To fix this please do the following:

  1. Close all open web browsers.
  2. Right-click on the 1Password icon at the top of your Mac's screen and then click Quit. Wait until the icon disappears.
  3. Double-click on 1Password from your Mac's Applications folder.
  4. Open your web browser.

If that doesn't work, or if Touch ID isn't working for the desktop app either, then let me know and I can help further. 🙂

This gets it to work, but it stops working again after a few hours/days. Eventually it always goes back to not working. The web extensions are laughably bad at this point. This has been going on for months. They either won't fill, wont' unlock, or just plain won't do anything (even clicking extension icon). It's so bad

@notnotjake

That definitely isn't right and I'd like to investigate this further so that we can get this resolved. The next time that the issue occurs, please send in the following:

It's been working correctly since I made that post. I think there was an update that has seemed to make it work a lot better

@notnotjake

I'm happy that you're no longer seeing the issue. 🙂

I am now seeing this issue again. In the browser extension (safari) it says: "Status: Problems Connecting. Make sure the 1Password app is unlocked". The 1Password App is unlocked, but I am still having issues. Anytime I use 1P in Safari, it is asking for my password instead of using biometrics.

@notnotjake

Can you check to ensure biometrics are enabled? Several users have experienced an issue where it (biometrics) had been disabled. I'm curious if you're in the same situation.

I'm having a similar problem with the 1password 8 mac app asking me to enter my 1 password at least 1 time a day despite setting the security settings to unlock with touch id and require a password every 2 weeks. When I do have to enter the password again, I immediately check the settings and somehow the setting to unlock with touch id has been deselected.

@mjyl

Several users have reported the trouble has been resolved in the betas. If you'd like the team to look into your case in more detail, please use the following steps to create a diagnostic report.

  1. Open 1Password.
  2. Press Command and comma (Control and comma on Windows). The 1Password Preferences/Settings will open.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Select Send Diagnostics.
  5. Select Reveal to locate the report in your Downloads folder.

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

I had 1Password for Safari installed at ~/Applications/Safari Extensions/
It's now working again after:
* Uninstalling with https://formulae.brew.sh/cask/appcleaner
* Reinstalling at /Applications

I think perhaps 1Password and 1Password for Safari need to be kept in system Applications folder and that's why they weren't talking to each other or using biometrics?
