How to see passkey sites in WatchTower?

I see that passkeys are now in the production release as of the browser version 2.15 as announced (https://releases.1password.com/b5x/stable/#whats-new). The announcement indicates that we can "start by finding a site that supports passkeys. You can do this by browsing our passkey directory, or by opening Watchtower in 1Password, which now flags all of your existing logins that could be updated with a passkey."

I have the Windows production release of 1password 8.10.15 (current as of today) and the Watchtower does not mention Passkeys. I signed into the web at my.1password.com and my Watchtower also does not mention passkeys. Is there a trick or setting that I am missing?

How do I see passkey supported sites in the Watchtower?

Hi @RiversideKid - I'm sorry to hear that you're not seeing passkey available alerts in Watchtower as expected. If there's a particular site for which you're expecting to see a passkey available alert, can you check your Ignored Alerts section in Watchtower and see if there's an ignored alert for that site? Does restoring the alert cause the passkey available alert to display as expected?

If not, you can try creating a test Login item with either https://google.com/ or https://ebay.com/ in the website field, to see if you get a passkey available alert there. You'll also need to enter something into the username and password fields when creating this test item in order to trigger the alert.

Let me know how you get on and we'll be here to help with next steps.

I am seeing the same problem - no Watchtower alerts for "passkey available", windows version 8.10.15

I created a test login with https://google.com in the website field (username and password fields filled in). This does not show ANY watchtower alert in the windows 1password.

I also created a test login with https://accounts.google.com in the website field (username and password fields filled in). This shows a watchtower alert for "two-factor authentication" in the windows 1password. It does NOT show the "passkey available" alert that i was hoping for.

Neither of the test logins show up on my watchtower ignored alerts list.

I doubt that I ever ignored an alert, to test this I ignored one and then was able to see 'ignored alters' in the Watchtower, but once I restored that one alter, the option vanished.

I was able to set up a passkey at https://ebay.com, so the browser extension works.

What I am not able to see is a Watchtower section for available Passkey sites as described in the release notes from September 13.

The question remains; How do I see the Watchtower section for Passkeys as described? (I have only 1 passkey (ebay) and I have bunches of entries in my 1password where I see that passkeys are working via the https://passkeys.directory and I do not have a passkey so there should be quite a list on my 1password Watchtower.)

can confirm I don't get an alert in watch tower for items either besides there just being a GitHub passkey supported shown on the item itself, I don't have anything in ignored either.

for example I had a banner show the passkey was supported on GitHub but when I moved to my Google item, there was no banner despite Google supporting Passkeys.

+1

Not only +1 to the OP's post, but the sites I set up with passkeys never seem to log in with the passkey and instead use whatever previous login I used. When looking at the passkey setup guides it appears you are supposed to be prompted for your biometric data when setting up (unless 1password uses whatever is already stored on the device?). I'm never prompted for biometrics at login, well, unless it's a sign on with a 3rd party provider prompt.

Will probably remove the few passkeys I've setup so far as the feature doesn't seem 'ready' for use, unless this is beginner stupidity on my part (highly likely).

Update... In the 1password chrome plugin, I now see a new "passkey available" message inside a purple box above the password details when I select certain passwords. This is NOT shown in the windows app or web app.

Watchtower results still don't show passkey info, so I'd have to select every password individually to look for this message.

Also, the message is not shown if the password is weak - instead you get a red box with a "vulnerable password" message.

Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come.

Hey folks - @RiversideKid, @1PassForMe, @CJStylesOrg, @Ind3X

Today we released an update to the production release of 1Password for Windows (8.10.16). Let me know if you can now see the Passkeys section in Watchtower.

If not, ensure that you have this setting enabled by navigating to Settings > Privacy > "Check for passkeys"

Looking forward to your responses.

Ali

@AliH1P it is still missing, even after toggling that and force closing the desktop app and relaunching.

Still having an issue...

I updated to 8.10.16
I verified Settings > Privacy > "Check for passkeys" was enabled

On the watchtower main screen I don't see a box regarding passkeys.

On the watchtower screen I click on "Show Ignored Alerts" and I do see "Passkeys available" on the ignored alerts dropdown menu. But, When I select this from the dropdown... it shows nothing - "Watchtower didn't find any login items with passkeys available."

Chrome plugin does continue to show "passkey available" message for a test google.com website login.

Issue fixed for me...

I had a second issue with offline items that weren't updating. When 1password customer service had me remove + replace the windows sqlite file, the passkey alerts showed up under the ignored alerts list. When I clicked restore alerts the "passkeys available" box showed up on the main watchtower screen.
