New Feature "Expiry date" - Where is the alert?

I would like to know if I just don't understand it or if it doesn't work.

I have added a date to an item and set an alarm for the day before.

But no alarm appears on the day of the alarm?!

I can only see that the item is expiring or about to expire when I navigate to the item itself or look in the watchtower.

However, I understand "alert" to mean something else.

My expectation is that there is either a notification from 1Password or I at least get some kind of indication on the main screen, e.g. a newly introduced category "expired" with a red 1 on it or something.

Is there anything else planned, as I don't find it very helpful as it is now.

Hi @Ronso,

I'm sorry that the "alert" is expected only in the item details view or the Watchtower section currently. I understand it might be ignored easily.

Therefore, I shared your feedback and filed a feature request accordingly for our team to improve the feature. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Yeah, this is a great point.

The “alert” should be obvious.:  A popup, or email, or red flag of some kind is needed.  If the alert/alarm is not obvious, if you have to look into the item itself to be alerted, then you're not truly being alerted, and therefore, it’s not of much value.

Good idea, but needs more work

Hi @mygoodness,

Thank you for the feedback. Per my reply to the original post, I shared the feedback and filed feature request to our team for further development of the option.

Similar known issue with the Alert drop-menu even appearing:

New feature "set expiry alert" - BUT WHERE IS IT?

Just realising this now. Please work on this one and implement ASAP, its a sorely missed opportunity to manage credential lifecycles effectively.

Thanks phillipc

I'll get this mentioned to the team for further consideration. Before I do that, can I clarify if you're looking for a different type of notification? The feature exists currently it just shows up in Watchtower. Apologies, I just want to ensure we're on the same page.

Thanks @1P_Tommy , in the interest of scalaeability and unified management of platforms (especially for my company), notifications would need to be sent outside of the 1Password ecosystem and ultimately into something else. A simple email reminder (either manual recipients or those that manage the vault) would be most ideal and a good start.

Appreciate you coming back to me on this.

Yes, have to agree, simply posting the alert in WatchTower is not really an alert.  Users have to think/remember to proactively look in WT to find the alert.  Most folks probably don't interact with WT daily. Might as well go to the item in question to see if it's reached the expiration date.

What we need is a popup, or banner that activates when the expiration date arrives.  That is, no user interaction should be required.

While I do appreciate the attempted improvement, it really needs a bit more work.  Thanks.

Or even better, just an alert notification option somewhere (either globally or preferably per alert). If reminder chosen, pick alert option:

  • Notification
  • Email > add em <add email address>

Some users prefer emails to app notifications, so ideally a choice would be nice.

Before all that though... the date entry format needs to be fixed, as it remains always set as US format (mm/dd/yyyy) which can cause confusion on date entry fields for all users using another date format (eg. dd/mm/yyyy) in System Settings.

I registered an account to start a thread on this and luckily it’s already done. Sorely agree that a push notification or email would be best, there is a large gap in expectation

Hi @wingardium,

I appreciate you signing up to add your vote! I've shared your feedback with our Product team.

@kevin_li if I recall correctly, previously, you'd add a vote to the feature request for every forum user who added an "I'm interested" comment to a feature request in the forum. Do you still do that?

If possible, a better way might be to implement some kind of voting system in the forum. If that's not possible, the thumbs up could be used for voting, but then you'd also have to regularly check the likes, or build an automated solution for that.

Anyway, I've added a like to the original post, as I stumbled upon this thread when I found out today that the alert is not really an alert. I want a alert notification, and preferably with options for app notification, email notification or an option to enable both at the same time.

@Backspaze

Thanks for the feedback regarding push and email alerts for expiry dates! I've filed it with the team internally. 🙂

All feedback is shared with, and considered by, our product team.  We don't have a public voting system for feature requests since that could give the wrong impression that features are built only based on what has the most "votes" at a given time. Voting systems are also prone to being gamed. Discussions such as this allow us to better understand the need for specific features.

hi @1P_Dave, Good news you've shared this feedback with the product team. It's something that could be extremely useful for customers alike in terms of API management.
Apart from here, Is this anyway we can monitor the progress of this being rolled out as a feature ?
Having alert notification would be great but also sent as an event which can then be monitored through a SIEM.

Hey, Tommy, Yes, please remind whomever that this request to change the Watchtower hidden "alert" method to just about anything else...preferably something that is obvious to the user... is still important.  Thanks.

+1 for getting this done ASAP, as it is our most requested and needed feature by far, even critical I would say. Having to managing expirations in a separate system is a lot of redundant work, and unfortunately prone to human errors.

It's been 10 months since the feature request was submitted, and there has been no update, so it doesnt look promising.

Any chance we could get a developer to comment on this feature\upcoming plans?

@rogergh

Welcome to the community! The feature request remains open for consideration with our product team but we don't have any updates to share at the moment. Thank you for sharing your need for this feature, I've passed your comment along internally.

+1

My team and stakeholders would also REALLY like to see an expansion of this to help with proper maintenance and alerting. I've written a CLI script but a proper solution from 1Password would be a lot better.
