Beginning a few days ago, I started receiving many, many alarming emails from 1Password warning of new sign-ins from Safari. This caused quite a bit of angst, and a bunch of wasted time, including on Christmas when I really didn’t want to be thinking about computer security issues, because I was afraid that 1Password had somehow been compromised.

But instead it seems like it’s probably somehow related to Safari on one of my devices, possibly my iPad… it seems like I’m getting these alert emails nearly every time I use it. I am not signing into or using 1Password (to my knowledge) when most of the emails seem to be generated, just using the iPad or Safari is enough.

In my list of devices, there are a zillion entries for Safari, with a bunch of different addresses, which is why I was concerned. But I don’t have any reason to think there is anything nefarious going on though I admit that I don’t understand all the entries and differing addresses.

It’s also possible the emails are being generated by 1Password on my Mac, but in that case they are happening at times I’m not even using the computer, so that would be even weirder.

Any idea what is going on?

Any updates?

I've been experiencing the same thing and came looking for answers. I can confirm these email alerts are generated whenever whenever I open Safari on my iPhone (regardless of whether I am accessing 1P to log in to anything). Curiously, launching 1Password on my iPhone did not cause an email alert to be generated.

Like you, I am also on the iOS 18.3 Beta (specifically the developer beta), and I'm reasonably sure these emails started turning up after updating to the 18.3 beta. I suspect, therefore, this is related.

Further information, in case it's relevant: on my home network (where I am 90% of the time), I have Private Wi-Fi Address disabled, but Limit IP Address Tracking is enabled. In Safari settings, Advanced Tracking and Fingerprinting Protection is set to All Browsing, Prevent Cross-Site Tracking is enabled and Hide IP Address is set to Trackers and Websites.

@1P_Tommy @DaviatorSF

I can confirm that the workaround presented in the comment you linked worked for me. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

You might as well just give us the option to turn this email alert off for our account, because an email that is so spuriously generated with no valid purpose will only become totally ignored and therefore worse than no email at all, as it becomes a nuisance while providing no benefit.

@acfs @1P_Tommy

Thanks to both of you for the info and the nudge in the right direction. I have disabled the Safari extension on my iPad and will check basic here in a few weeks to see if it's safe to reenable it.

Hi there, I am looking for some help with this extension restart that many of you have reported: https://1password.community/search?domain=all_content&query=extension%20restart&scope=site&source=community.

It seem that the extensions works fine, but somehow it doesn't think so since two weeks ago. I would appreciate some advise beyond: restart extension, reboot machine, uninstall/install extension.

It happens on both safari profiles that I have. Whenever I open it for the first time, it shows that we need to restart the extension, but as you can see on the video, it works perfectly fine.

Help!
