Passkey creation does not update the right 1Password item

Some background: as a Salesforce developer, I manage multiple test user accounts in a dev environment as part of implementation. Salesforce now requires all accounts to have a passkey — passwords are not enough. If an account is initially with a password, then upon next login a passkey must be created.

The issue:when creating a passkey, 1Password then will show a dialog to either create a new item or update the wrong item (e.g., another user account). There is no way to select the correct 1Password item. So I end up creating a new item, and having to copy all the information from the old entry.

Hello @Thorendor! 👋

I’m sorry that 1Password isn’t offering to update the right login item. Can you confirm the following about the item that should be suggested:

  1. Does it have the same username as the account you’re saving the passkey for?
  2. Does it include the website address of the page that you’re saving a passkey on?

Can you also tell me if the passkey is being saved for sign-in? Or as a second factor for multi-factor authentication? I look forward to hearing from you.

I won’t be able to check into this till next week, but for sure the suggested item was a different user name and URL. How would I tell for sure whether it was for sign in or multi factor? The newly saved item included only the passkey, even though I used the (correct) item to initially enter my password.

Does the item already have a passkey saved? If it does, and it’s not a correct passkey for it’s user/website, 1password will refuse to replace it -- you’d have to delete the item’s passkey first

It did not. It does now since I copied over the passkey from the new item.  😀

How did you copy the passkey from one item to another? 😮

Sorry. Bad typos: … copied over the password from the old item.
