QR code scanning isn't functioning in 1Password for Mac

Hi, I thought that unassigning/re-assigning screen recording permissions would resolve the QR scanning feature not functioning properly. I have tried the basic troubleshooting otherwise ... updating to the latest version (today) and restarting the computer. When I click the "Scan QR Code" button, the scanner window does not appear. Instead, I immediately see the "QR code detection failed" error at the bottom of the screen. Please help. Thanks!

Interesting. Having played with it now, I see that it does work, but I'm not entirely sure I like it. I think I prefer having some obvious affordance and a feeling that I'm actually driving the process ... but I suppose I'll get used to it. It's certainly very clever.

Had the same issue, scanning Cloudflares QR code.
Suggestion: Help the user with troubleshooting, not only showing a simple error message.

@reboot81

Thank you for the report and the suggestion, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. If you haven't already, as a workaround for now, you can scan the QR code using 1Password in the browser instead: Use 1Password as an authenticator for sites with two-factor authentication

I keep having this issue, too. In my case, I think it was because I use a browser extension called Dark Reader that puts everything in dark mode. Temporarily disabling the plugin worked.

Suggestion: allow us to drag the QR code image from the browser and drop it into 1password.

@johnpeel244

Does the site provide a code? If so, you can copy the code and paste it into the field of 1Password. Some sites seem to be problematic when the code is very dense. I've had luck scanning with 1Password in the browser when this happens. You might give that a try.

That's an interesting suggestion. I can get that before the team for future consideration.

I've had this problem for some weeks. Today tried again to scan a TOTP QR code. tried different browsers and different zoom levels - no luck. Turned off and back on 1Password permission in Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and restarted 1Password - also did not work.

Finally. Removed the 1Password permission from the screen recording session. Closed 1Password. Added 1Password manually to screen recording. Started 1Password. This time it worked!!

There is a difference between enabling 1Password screen recording and adding 1Password screen recording permission.

Thanks for sharing the steps that got you going again. Out of curiosity @stevegroomsro are you using 1Password 7 or 1Password 8? It's not super important, again just a curiosity on my part. I'm glad things are working better for you now.
