QR code scanning isn't functioning in 1Password for Mac

Hi, I thought that unassigning/re-assigning screen recording permissions would resolve the QR scanning feature not functioning properly. I have tried the basic troubleshooting otherwise ... updating to the latest version (today) and restarting the computer. When I click the "Scan QR Code" button, the scanner window does not appear. Instead, I immediately see the "QR code detection failed" error at the bottom of the screen. Please help. Thanks!

I continue to have problems with this mechanism for scanning QRcodes to set up 2FA 1-time passwords. Rarely does it work. I open the appropriate page in Safari, I click on the little icon in the 1Password app, and after a few seconds, 1Password reports that the QRcode scan has failed. In my experience, this happens far more often than not, and I'm forced to try to get the actual code from the website or, if that's not possible, copy the QRcode and decompile it with another tool to get the text out of it.

Whatever the mechanism you're using to do this, it doesn't work very well, and nowhere near as well as the old tool that 1Password 7 used.

Safari Version 17.6 (19618.3.11.11.5)
macOS 14.6.1 (23G93)

@NomadUK

I'm sorry that you continue to see issues. Do you usually scan QR codes from on websites open in Safari or from other places as well? If it's mostly from Safari then you can scan the QR code using 1Password for Safari instead of having to open the desktop app:

Let me know if this works better for you: Save your one-time password code
- In the 1Password browser extension

Almost always Safari. I will try using the extension next time and see how that fares.

For what it’s worth, the iOS version of 1Password does this flawlessly.

@NomadUK

If you run into issues with using the browser extension to scan the QR code then let me know. 🙂
