Secure Note missing text unless edited

I went to a secure note to look for some information and the note itself was a lot shorted text wise that it should be and was missing key information I was looking for. I went to edit the note and lo and behold the missing text at the bottom of the note showed up. Why?

The note makes use of ## and ---- and ==== to break up the text in the note for readability, Is that some sort of control characters that is making the remainder of the text not visibile unless edited?

Hello! 👋

Thanks so much for taking the time to share this with the community, I know how frustrating this can be. This is a known issue that our development team is actively investigating. In certain cases, the contents of a Secure Note can become truncated, particularly when:

  • A line begins with four or more spaces, or is indented after a paragraph break (an empty line)
  • Text is wrapped in angled brackets (< >)

As a temporary workaround, you can turn off Markdown formatting (1Password → Settings → “Format secure notes using Markdown”). That said, I understand this isn’t ideal for everyone.

We do have a bug report filed in our developers’ backlog, and the team is working toward a fix in a future update.

The truncation occurs after line 65 in the secure note. Everything below that line does not show up unless I edit the note first.

In a Secure Note, both Notes area which can use markdown and Text areas that you can add to a secure note seem to have a limitation of 65 lines. Anything entered past this 65 line limit is still there in the Notes area and Text area but that information is not visible when simply viewing the Secure Note, unless your edit the Secure Note. You can NOT add additional Notes areas to a Secure Note but you can add additional Text areas. The problem is that Text area are juist that text no markdown allowed. Is the lack of being able to add aditional Notes area a programming restriction? Markdown allows me to make headings in the information to make it easier to find this information.

Hello @Fedup! 👋

I'm sorry that you're not see all of the text in a Secure Note. I'm not able to reproduce the issue on my end, when I add a long Secure Note I see all lines of my notes including lines after 65.

So that I can better understand the situation, can you post a screenshot of what you see when editing the Secure Note and another screenshot of what you see when viewing the Secure Note? You can replace the text with random words for the purposes of the screenshot so that you don't reveal any sensitive information.

I look forward to hearing from you.

I spent about 30 mins trying to figure out what was going on with this issue. It appears that somewhere in the original text there was a non visible character in the text. When that area of text was left in the Note field the remaining text was no longer visible in the Note field unless one used the Edit function.

As the text contained confidential information around the text portion of the notes where the text was being "truncated" I can not post a screenshot.

I had even tried copying the entire section of text into Windows Notepad to strip off formatting and then pasting it back into the 1Password Notes field. That did not help. I got it fixed by retyping the text in the affected area from scratch. I did come across a post here in the forum mentioning a NULL character having issues with secure notes. No idea if that was the case here.

@Fedup

Thank you for the additional information. I'm glad that you were able to workaround the issue by retyping your note.

I'll keep an eye out for further reports of this behaviour. If you're able to tell me more about the specific character that was causing the issue, or how to reproduce the issue, then let me know.

I further filtered the confidential information from the secure note, and even the cleansed text is having issues.

I have this text in a secure note, and it also exhibits the issue that the text below a certain point in the note is hidden.

I'm having the same problem. I also see that this was noted on reddit 2 years ago. Do you have a fix yet?

BTW - there is a search feature with the iPhone app that helps find truncated data

Has this been fixed? I bumped into this today and found the "missing" data with the iphone app

As of today, Apr 9, 2025, this is a known issue and the development team is working on it.

Here is the response I got after opening a new ticket. "Based on the details that you've shared, it seems like you're experiencing a known issue our Development team are actively working on where Secure Note contents can end up truncated if a line starts with four or more spaces or an indent after a paragraph break or at the beginning of a note."

It seems to me that 1Password should have have shared this info on this thread.

I am aware of these 2 ticket numbers:
