Subsequent unlock fails after Reset All Settings — iOS 27 Developer Beta

  • June 24, 2026

Device: iPhone 16 Pro Max
iOS Version: iOS 27 Developer Seed 2
1Password Version: 8.12.24
Account Type: Personal (1password.com)

Summary
After performing a full Reset All Settings on iOS, 1Password authenticates successfully on initial sign-in but fails on all subsequent unlock attempts with the error "That didn't work. Please try again." — regardless of whether Face ID or passcode is used.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Performed Reset All Settings (Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings) on iPhone 16 Pro Max running iOS 27 Developer Seed 2
  2. Launched 1Password — Face ID unlock failed with "That didn't work. Please try again."
  3. Disabled Face ID within 1Password settings — passcode unlock also failed with same error
  4. Disabled Face ID in iOS Settings → Face ID & Passcode → Other Apps for 1Password, then re-enabled — issue persisted
  5. Signed out of account within the app, deleted 1Password, reinstalled from App Store
  6. On relaunch, previously saved account appeared in history — deleted it
  7. Scanned QR code from a second trusted device (iPad, iOS 27) to add account fresh
  8. Successfully signed in and accessed vault contents
  9. Closed and relaunched app — unlock via Face ID failed again with same error
  10. Attempted passcode unlock — same error

Result: Every subsequent unlock after initial sign-in fails regardless of authentication method. Need to reenter master password every time.
Expected: Face ID or passcode unlocks the vault on subsequent launches as normal.

Notes: The trusted device used for QR code sign-in has Face ID functioning correctly in 1Password on the same iOS 27 build, suggesting this may be specific to the post-Reset All Settings state on the affected device.

Hello folks,

We’ve fixed an issue where unlocking with Face ID or Touch ID wouldn’t work properly if you reset your device settings on iOS 27. Please update to version 8.12.36 on your iPhone or iPad: How to keep 1Password up to date

If you still see issues then let me know by replying to this comment and I can help further.

Hello @schwartzki! 👋

I'm sorry that Face ID unlock isn't working for 1Password on iOS after you used the "Reset All Settings" option. Can you try resetting Face ID and then setting it up again: Reset Face ID

If that still doesn't work then I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your iOS device:

Send a diagnostics report (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

With your email please include:

  • A link to this thread: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/subsequent-unlock-fails-after-reset-all-settings-%E2%80%94-ios-27-developer-beta/171402
  • Your forum username: schwartzki

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here.  Thanks very much!

  1. Reset FaceID
  2. Signed out of account within the app, deleted 1Password, reinstalled from App Store
  3. On relaunch, previously saved account appeared in history — deleted it
  4. Scanned QR code from a second trusted device (iPad, iOS 27) to add account fresh
  5. Successfully signed in and accessed vault contents
  6. Closed and relaunched app — unlock via Face ID failed again with same error

Still not working and now all my digital ID’s have been removed from the device.

Submitted a Diagnostics Report, hopefully you can resolve this issue.

Thanks

I can confirm this behavior on iOS 27 Public Beta 2.

Everything was working fine until today when I temporary disabled both Face ID and password in my iPhone settings.

I re-enabled those a few minutes later and created new Face ID scan, but since that happens, 1Password fails to unlock the app using either Face ID or phone password. I've tried everything, including deleting and installing 1Password again, turning Face ID and other password settings on and off both at 1Password setting and in phone Settings. I also made new Face ID scan one again, nothing helps.

So every time I launch 1Password it starts Face ID, scanning is happening and then there's a message that it was unsuccessful and Please try again. But pressing the Face ID icon on the locked screen does nothing. After app restart it just asks to enter 1Password password.

@Onegin

Thank you for the report and for helping us to test 1Password on the beta version of iOS 27. To clarify, can you share a screenshots of the specific Face ID and password settings that you disabled on your iPhone? Our team is trying to reproduce the issue and your information would be helpful.

Can you also tell me if you’ve recently used the “Reset All Settings” option in iOS? The other reports that we’ve received all involve this feature.

This one. To turn it off you need to erase your Face ID data first.

I did not use the “Reset All Settings” option. My guess is that when you reset all settings, “Turn Passcode Off” also applies and that’s the reason for the mentioned behavior.

Thank you for those details. Could you try resetting Face ID on your iPhone:

  1. Open the iOS Settings app.
  2. Tap Face ID & Passcode.
  3. Scroll down and tap Reset Face ID.
  4. Follow the prompts to setup Face ID again.
  5. Lock your iPhone and confirm that you can unlock it using Face ID.

Then, lock and unlock 1Password using your account password. Then lock 1Password again and try to unlock it using Face ID. If that doesn’t work then, I'd like to ask you to create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from your iOS device:

Send a diagnostics report (iOS)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to support@1password.com

Public Beta 3 and 8.12.32 update – the issue still persists.

I am also having this issue on IOS 27 Beta 5. I completed all the same steps as the others in this thread to resolve it with no avail. I submitted a ticket with diagnostic data. My ticket number is 729775

Hello folks,

Our development team is aware of an issue where using the “Reset All Settings” option on the iOS 27 beta can cause biometrics to fail to unlock 1Password for iOS. The team is currently investigating.

For the time being, we don’t require any other information or new diagnostics reports and I’ll reach out as soon as I have more news to share about a fix.

It's been two months since this issue was first reported, and it has been affecting my daily use for over a month as well. Could you share any updates on an estimated fix timeline? Even a quick status update on the diagnostic progress or root cause would be greatly appreciated.

Hello folks,

With the latest beta version of 1Password for iOS, we’ve fixed an issue where unlocking with Face ID or Touch ID wouldn’t work properly if you reset your device settings on iOS 27.

If you’d like to help us test the fix then you can find steps to try the beta version here: Use 1Password beta or nightly releases

Note: There are only a limited number of spots available in the TestFlight beta and we’re unable to free up more spots. Inactive testers do get removed from time to time so if there aren’t any spots right now, you can try again later.

If testing goes well in the beta version of 1Password for iOS then we hope to release the fix to the production version as soon as possible.

Hi 1Password Team,

I would like to report a Face ID authentication bug encountered on iOS 27 beta 8.

Issue Summary: When attempting to unlock the 1Password app while it is already running in the background, Face ID triggers and successfully scans my face, but the vault fails to unlock.

If I tap the Face ID button again, the scanner does not appear; instead, it immediately returns an error. As a result, I am forced to manually enter my master password every time to access the app.

This issue also breaks Safari AutoFill. When tapping "Unlock 1Password to Fill", Face ID encounters the same failure loop, preventing credentials from being filled automatically unless the master password is typed in.

Device Information:

  • OS: iOS 27 beta 8

  • App: 1Password for iOS (latest version)

Please look into this compatibility issue with the current iOS beta. Let me know if you need diagnostic logs or a screen recording.

Best regards,
