Question

Windows Hello opens in the background (After 8.12.1)

This is still broken in 8.12.8. The window pops open under other windows and is flashing in the taskbar half of the time. The other times, it appears on screen, but does not get the foreground, so Hello doesn't work until you click into the window.

Please get this fixed. It's been broken for months now!

Hi @Jedis, I'm sorry to hear that you're still running into this behaviour in 8.12.8. This issue should have been fixed in version 8.12.1, so I'd like to take a closer look at why that fix hasn't improved the behaviour on your device.

Could you reproduce the issue, then create and share a diagnostics report from 1Password:

Send a diagnostics report (Windows)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to: support@1password.com

With your email please include:

  • A link to this thread: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/windows-hello-opens-in-background-and-doesnt-function-correctly/166499/replies/168683
  • Your forum username: Jedis

You'll receive a reply with a Support ID number.  Please post that number here.  Thanks!

Hi @Jedis, apologies for the delay here! Thanks for sharing your Support ID. I can see you've already been discussing this with my colleague over email and things are in hand, so I'll leave it there for now.

If anything else comes up, I'd recommend continuing the conversation over email so we can keep everything in one place.

I just installed this workaround, I hope this will work. Its been my experience that when the hello isnt in the foreground, then I can click to make it active but will need to re-enter my complete 1password password, which is a bit long and complex. So, thanks

Hi @sford, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been running into an issue where the Hello prompt opens in the background.

As this issue should have been fixed quite a while ago, I’d like our team to investigate this further, if you’re willing. Could you reproduce the issue, then create and share a diagnostics report from 1Password:

I can do that. For some background:

Windows 10 home 10.0.19045.

1Password for Windows 8.12.32 (81232033)

I do not have a user password on my system, since  it never leaves the house.

It it very random, I can go 16 or 17 times and dont get the problem, and then it’ll happen a couple times in row or so.

So, I will disable the autohotkey.com program I created and wait for the next time it happens

Hi @sford, thanks so much for sharing these additional details, and for being willing to reproduce the issue to help us investigate. Let me know once it’s happened again and you’ve emailed in with the diagnostics.

Note:
1) I did not disable the autohotkey.com program I created, this still happened

@sford

Thank you for sharing the Support IDs. Since we can’t access your support ticket or diagnostics report from the public community, please continue the conversation with our Support team by email so that we can keep everything together and avoid duplicating the discussion in two places.
