1Password browser at work

Hi at work I would to use only 1Password browser extension without the desktop app because I can't install it. For best security, is it possible to unlock 1Password in browser by scanning a QR code with my smartphone where 1Password is installed so to not show while I type the password? I read that this option should be available in my profile, but I can't find it. I should enable access to the 1Password portal using a passkey and not with a password and secret key, but I don't see this option. Thank for reply

Hi @lucasan thanks for getting back to me.

At this point, it's not possible to authenticate the 1Password browser extension by scanning a QR code without having to go through 1Password.com.

Additionally, without the desktop app installed, you will have to unlock the 1Password browser extension using your account password unless you're using Safari as your browser where Touch ID can be enabled as an unlock method in the Security settings: Manage your unlock and auto-lock settings in 1Password

As for unlocking 1Password with a passkey, this feature is still in beta and requires creating a separate 1Password account to use: Unlock 1Password with a passkey (beta)

Since this is still in beta, we don't recommend using these accounts as real accounts or storing any information you need access to there. These are merely meant to be test accounts as we feel that more work is still needed to get the experience to where it should be before we're able to release and promote the feature to a general audience.

You mentioned you read that it's possible to unlock 1Password in the browser by scanning a QR code with a smartphone where 1Password is installed and that this option should be available in your profile.

Can you share the URL of the page where you read this so I can better understand what you should be seeing?

Can you also let me know if you have an Individual/Family account or if you're part of a Teams or Business account?

In the meantime, one way that I was able to unlock the browser extension by scanning the QR code with the following steps:

  1. Navigate to 1Password.com
  2. Click on 'Sign in to another account' towards the bottom of the page.
  3. Open and unlock 1Password on your mobile device.
  4. Tap your account in the top right corner and choose 'Scan QR code'.
  5. Scan the QR code with your mobile device to sign in. This will also unlock the 1Password browser extension.

Hi Chris, I did a search with Google AI. My account is a family type.

I'd like to authenticate with 1Password Browser at my company without typing in my password by scanning a QR code and without having to go through 1Password.com every time.

The ideal scenario would be to unlock 1Password Browser with a passkey or a choise in 1Password extension for a QR code
