ordering 2fa methods

I understand that you’d like to be able to set your Security Key as the default authentication method for new sign-ins. At the moment it’s not possible to manually set which will be prompted for first, however, anecdotally, for me it usually requests the Security Key first, with TOTP as a fallback.

To confirm, are you currently being prompted for your one-time password first, and if so, where are you signing in when this happens? Is this happening everywhere, or does the behaviour differ depending on where you’re signing in?

I’ve done some testing on my end, and on macOS, Windows, and Linux I’m seeing the same Two-Factor Authentication prompt as you, where Authentication Code is selected first by default - it seems as if the behaviour I remember where the Security Key was requested first may have changed at some point (or I’m just remembering wrong - it has been a while since I had both methods set up!)

In any case, I’ve gone ahead and filed a feature request for a method to manually set which 2FA method is requested first, as I can definitely see how this could make things more streamlined when using a Security Key is your preferred authentication method.
