Question

sidebar keeps disappearing after I created a new entry

I am a new user.  I created a vault, imported my old passwords into my Personal vault… everything was fine until I created a new entry with a secure note.  Now my sidebar keeps hiding.  I bring it up by clicking the sidebar icon on top, I see the sidebar, I do something with it, and the minute i hit enter, the sidebar disappears again.  how can I keep it on my screen?

I tried Cntl-shift-D and that just brings up chrome bookmarks.  Isn’t there somekind of “pin sidebar on screen” function somewhere?

Help, this is driving me crazy and making it hard for me to do anything.

I was using the 1password Website, when this happened.

Hi @scorp,

You mentioned:

I bring it up by clicking the sidebar icon on top, I see the sidebar, I do something with it, and the minute i hit enter, the sidebar disappears again.

To confirm, is this icon you’re referring to?

If so, could you confirm if the issue persists after you sign out of your account then sign back in? Additionally, does it also occur when signing in using an incognito window in Chrome?

yes, that is what I am referring to.  That is the icon ON THE SIDEBAR when it is open.  When I click it, the sidebar HIDES/CLOSES - it does NOT LOCK IT.

There is an icon to the very top left of the website - to the left of the profile avatar -  when the sidebar is hidden, that if I click it VERY FAST AND HOLD IT DOWN, before the sidebar open - that seems to lock it.  The problem is as soon as I hover over it, the sidebar pops open in temporary state and covers that lock item so I can’t lock it.  Then I have to play - can i close the sidebar and click that upper sidebar on the top left fast enough to hold it down and lock it.  I don’t seem to have those olympic skills.

here is a crude picture of the sidebar icon I’m talking about when the sidebar is closed - I highlighted it yellow - added a pink arrow pointing to it

Hi @scorp,

Apologies for the double initial reply! I realized I had misunderstood the scenario, and intended to remove my first reply. I’ve removed it now to prevent any confusion for anyone else who might view the thread.

Thank you for sharing these additional details. When the sidebar is hidden, I do see that it can be hard to click that icon without the sidebar first coming up. I found that if you hover your mouse over the very right of the icon, you can click it without the sidebar appearing. With that said, I’ve gone ahead and shared your feedback with the team about the experience, and adding a similar function to what you’re seeing in the desktop app.

To confirm, after you’ve successfully clicked the icon, are you finding that the sidebar is remaining open until you click the icon again?

I downloaded the Windows version of 1Password to my PC.  This has a separate “hide / unhide” function available (if you click the 3 dots seen when the sidebar is hidden or not).  That is functional and easy to use.  The website 1password needs to add a separate sidebar hide/unhide available when the sidebar is both hidden and not hidden.
