Question

Two accounts in browser extension

I have the 1password browser extension in chrome. I have a business account and a personal account. My autofill will only work for one account at a time. So if I go to a website I use for business but I'm logged into my personal account on the browser extension, I have to lock 1password and sign in under my business account for the right autofill to pull up. Is there a way to stay logged into both accounts in the browser extension?

So it's not just me!  I was about to open a thread on this.  I'm seeing the exact same behavior.  It'll see the vault, but if you try to tell it to use both vaults it won't save the changes.  I tried reinstalling the extension twice, still does the same thing.

This has been by far, the most frustrating thing I have ever come across. It ruins any ease of use for a password manager. I log into 10+ sites a day, multiple different times in a day, and I have to now keep the desktop version open on a different screen, just to be able to use this software.

I have opened a support case, hopefully this will be fixed soon.  It is really breaking my workflow as well.  I have one vault I can autofill and one I have to drag and drop from the desktop version.

Hi @adecker and @MattTheITGuy,

To confirm, are you using the extension with both a business and personal account signed in as well, similar to @allarson1 ?

Additionally, is the behaviour that you're all seeing that one of the two accounts is remaining fully locked, or are they both unlocked but you're only seeing autofill suggestions from one of them?

I have two 1password accounts - personal and business. If I’m logged into one of those accounts in the browser, then the other account remains fully locked and will not autofill passwords from the locked account. So for example, if I’m logged into personal, the extension works as expected for personal. But if I go to a website where I need a password from my business account, no autofill shows up. I have to lock my personal account and unlock my business account to get business passwords to autofill. If I go back to a site where I need a password from my personal account, nothing will autofill because I’m logged into my business account. So I have to lock my business account and unlock my personal account.

Hi @allarson1, @adecker , and @MattTheITGuy,

Based on the information you've all provided, it sounds as if you're running into a known issue at the moment. I've added your reports to the internal tracker for the issue. Our development team has released a fix, which is currently available in the nightly version of the app. It will be included in the production version in the near future. I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

In the meantime, we have two available workarounds:

Workaround 1:

  1. Unlock both accounts on the desktop app.
  2. Open your browser and right-click on the 1Password extension icon in the browser toolbar.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Toggle "Integrate this extension with the 1Password desktop app" off and back on.

Workaround 2:

  1. In the desktop app's Settings menu, select Security.
  2. Enable biometric unlock.
