Question

UI completely different after 1P shut off Universal

Finally gave up on “just dealing with it,” and can’t find a place to contact support for help, so I’ll list issues here:

1Password Teams Account 8.12.37.1

Safari 26.6.2 (21624.5.1.11.3)

MacOS 26.6.2 (25G83)

  • Creating an account in this Community didn’t offer me a suggested password. The field just sat there, blank.  Seemed strange for your own website.
  • Example UI: www.citi.com.  I have 12 passwords saved for this site.  The most active used to come up first, with all of them showing in a drop down I could scroll through.  Now, the oldest (and, coincidentally, least-used) login shows up first, AND, I have to click an “Other Passwords for citi.com...” choice to see any other logins. Clicking that choice opens the drop-down I’m accustomed to seeing.  But it takes an extra click now.
  • TouchID/Enter Password pops up, even if I’ve recently used TouchID (this used to persist for some period of time in the past)
  • Switch to another site, zapier.com.  This site has a two-stage login: first page for userID, which behaves exactly as above, even again asking for TouchID/Enter Password mere moments after it was just used for Citi.com.
  • Continue takes me to password entry page.  I have to choose the 1P login again, where before this would carry over from the selection on the previous page.  TouchID/Enter Password is needed once more, seconds after just authorizing it.
  • Jotform.com. This has username and password on one page.  TouchID required once again to fill in the credentials, but only once.  The 1Password dropdown shows up after the credentials are entered. I’ve realized that I don’t need to select this again, even though visually it appears that I’m supposed to.  Before that realization, it was an endless loop of select the login item, authorize TouchID, be presented the dropdown, select the login item, authorize TouchID, etc.  It will still loop, but I know enough to ignore it now.

I don’t recall any of these behaviors from before Universal Sign-in (which I actually liked) was shut off at the source.  Were we returned to some rollback version that actually doesn’t function properly?

I’ve checked my Safari extensions settings and re-followed the set up instructions on the 1P website just to be sure.  Prior to these errors, I was being asked to enter my actual 1P password to unlock 1P for every website.  Thankfully that’s no longer happening, but the repeated TouchID is the next nuisance. As well as the lack of a dropdown, combined with poor (and different-from-before) choices of which login to suggest on sites when multiple exist.

Am I doing something wrong to have caused all of these changes, or is there anything I can do to restore the previous functionality?  It feels so clunky and repetitive that I am sorry I’m insisting my team continue to use it.

Hello @dan! 👋

I’m sorry that you’re running into multiple issues. It sounds like you’ve enabled support for macOS AutoFill in Safari, which works a little differently from filling just using 1Password for Safari. You can read more about macOS AutoFill here: Use 1Password to sign in to apps and websites on your Mac

Try turning macOS AutoFill off to see if it returns you back to the experience that you’re used to:

  1. From the menu bar, select the Apple menu > System Settings.
  2. In the sidebar, select General, then select AutoFill & Passwords.
  3. Under “AutoFill from”, turn off 1Password.
  4. Select the 1Password icon in the menu bar, then select Quit.
  5. Reopen 1Password.

Let me know how that goes.

Thanks, Dave.  I followed the 5 step exactly as you wrote, and that resulted in no suggestions being given at all.

I then went to the link you shared and followed those instructions exactly.  This turned on what was turned on by the 5 steps in your reply.

In the end it was behaving exactly as it was when I wrote this last week.

I found the support chat button this morning and have a ticket open there.

Thanks for the reply.
