Re: Bug: 1Password asking for password on system startup
Previous builds (user since 2023) have all opened minimized to the system tray, with the password prompt only appearing when I actually click on "Unlock 1Password" in a browser window.
Since updating to 8.11.18, instead of opening to the system tray, 1Password now opens at system startup to a maximixed window prompting for a password.
Is there any way I can get it to return to the previous state of opening minimized on startup?
I've seen this behaviour on both my PCs
1Password for Windows 8.11.18 (81118036)
Windows 10 Pro 22H2
OS Build 19045.6575
Firefox 145.0
Add-on v8.11.16.35

With help from support I switched to the MSI version which appears to keep getting updated: https://support.1password.com/deploy-1password/?windows#step-1-choose-an-installer
The only tweak I had to do was modify the registry entry for startup (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run) from --auto-start to --silent
It was also my understanding that the dev team will explore ways to mitigate this behaviour on Windows 10.
I'm very happy now and consider this solved on my end by using the MSI installer.- ChadddddddNew Contributor
Yes! This worked for me too, thank you.
- Uninstall existing 1Password (msix) and reboot
- Install 1Password from msi
- Edit registry entry to --silent

Software updated to 8.11.20 and reverted to opening maximized.

It's because they dropped the exe install, and the new msix pkg is bugged/not supporting silent launch.
Starting minimized is a basic functionality of countless programs, and it got broken.
If msix is such a silly format that it can't start minimised, just keep the exe going along with it, at least until MS comes up with a fix. - OBGNew Contributor
The same thing is happening to me.
Used to start minimized, with an icon in the system tray. About a month ago I had a few instances where it DIDN'T show up in the tray. And now it opens the app every time Windows starts, which is really annoying.
