Annoyed at number of interactions required to autofill
Jack_P_1P That is an interesting question... I have been using 1Paasword for years - easily since before 3.x. When I was using 7.x and the recent 1password for Safari thing came out I was pretty confused. I don't need 1Password to impose things on the fields of my web pages. I just want to press command-\ and have a dropdown form the menu bar let me pick a username/password. Anyway, I installed the 1password for Safari thing, which seemed different than the traditional extension, and ended up with these 1password logos all over my web pages when trying to log into stuff. Annoyingly, even when 1Password 7 (the application was on screen and unlocked) the 1password for Safari thing would still remain locked. I would have to unlock it separately. Fast forward to today and I have put the beta for 1Password 8 on my personal Mac. I have removed version 7, with all it's ancillary bits as near as I can tell. Now I get the floating action palette thing - it looks like Spotlight and seems less functional than the v7 1Password menubar extension.
- When I open a web page and am presented with an option to log in: with 1 Password 7 I press command-\, select the correct set of credentials from those that are offered, select "autofill" and bam! creds are populated and I hit enter to log in.
- With 1Password 8, I press command-\, and now I have to type in the name of the credentials to find them. Then my only option is to "open and fill" instead of "autofill". This opens the web page in a new window and more often than not fails to auto fill the credentials. I end up having to copy the username, paste it in, press command-\ again, copy the password and paste it in.
I am generally unhappy with version 8. I realize it is the future, so I am sticking with it, but I will say that if you add friction to my daily procedure of recalling credentials, I am going to go find another product. The way it is today sucks.
I can be available for a zoom call, where I can demonstrate my experience with 1 password 7 and 1 password 8. Let me know if you are interested in that, and provide me with some direct contact info so that I can send you a zoom link.
