Question on this: what is the location polling frequency and drain in terms of battery? If I open 1PW does the app simply call on the phone’s existing collected location data or is it actively asking at that time? If that makes sense. Just trying to ascertain any overall battery impacts. Thank you!

9 months agoJV866112this is great question. I am one of the iOS developers here at 1Password and can tell you that we've been very careful to only request an updated location from the device only when a specific set of circumstances are met.
We do not continually poll the device for its location and instead only request an updated device location when the app unlocks and only if the Nearby tile is enabled on the home screen. We also check for an updated location if you navigate away from the home screen and come back into it but those requests are also only fired if the nearby tile is active and additionally those requests are also filtered on a time basis to avoid requesting location too often and reduce any impact on battery life.
In our own testing and throughout the period Nearby Items was available as a labs experiment, I am not aware of issues reported around an increase in battery usage but if you do notice any unexpected behaviour or impacts please do let us know.
If you need any more specifics around Android, we can ask an Android developer to get involved in the discussion.
