private links not working correctly outside of the browser
While clicking on a private link in the browser (or copy pasting the URL into a browser) seems to work fine, when I click on that same link from somewhere else, it does open the 1password app but does not bring me to the correct item.
I tried clicking on the link from several other apps - VSCode, Terminal, Notion and this seemed to be consistent.
I can't be sure if this is a mac-only issue, but I am on a mac.
Hello theozero! π
I'm sorry that links to items aren't opening correctly from non-browser apps. I can reproduce the same issue here on my end and I've filed a report with our development team so that they can look into this further.
Hopefully the issue can be fixed in a future update soon. π

Guys 2 years and no fix? Not sure how this thread is marked as solved when there is no solution or even workaround? To be clear this affects any OS/Device running 1Password 8 and has been an issue since the introduction of 1Password 8. It's a pretty simple bug that has some pretty severe impacts depending on the workflow. Please give us more than this has been passed onto the devs because it's been 2 years and nothing has changed. Keenly await your reply.

I'm sorry for the impact to your workflow. The issue is still open in our developer's backlog and I don't have any updates to share at the moment. I'll share your feedback with the team.

Hi Dave,
It's always the same "I don't have any updates to share at the moment", and it is not acceptable IMHO.
We are paying customers, and we deserve an ETA.
Not a wild guess that, like most (all) companies, you have deadlines for your tickets. So either this ticket is such low priority it's like "most likely we'll never be fixed" and it doesn't have a deadline, or it isn't and in that case it should have a deadline. and if so, as paying customers, we deserve to know.
Frankly, I am a long, happy 1Password customer, but I'm so frustrated to have always the same answers from customer supports (not only 1Password). I'm sure a good customer support is a BIG differentiator among providers for all customers, and you could be in the good basket ... but finally you decide to do as most (all) your competitors, i.e. "I don't care about my paying customers ... at least not enough to give REAL answers to their requests".Last but not least, why don't you change the status of this discussion ? "Solved" ?!?! Again, it shows the level of respect you have for your paying customers :-(

I confirm both issues
- on iOS, if 1Password is previously β±notβ± opened (or locked), then click on a private link would open 1Password, without taking you to the item referenced on the link. You'd have to go back to wherever the link is, click on it again, and only then 1Password would display the item.
- on macOS, it just doesn't work: even if 1Password is opened and unlocked, clicking on a private link just bring back 1Password application in the foreground, but that's it.
These are not critical bugs, but it's annoying. - james_wNew Contributor
I'm having the same issue. I copy the private link into Bear notes. Clicking the link focuses 1password but doesn't load the item. Only works when pasting the url in the browser and it opens 1password.
My workaround is to manually replace https://start.1password.com/open/i? with onepassword://open/i? in the private link. Then it just opens in the app like it should.

The issue still open in our developer's backlog to get fixed in the future, I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Regarding iOS, I'm not able to reproduce the issue. Can you tell me the following:
- Are you pasting the private link directly into the browser iOS? If so then which browser?
- If you're not pasting the link into a browser then are you tapping on the link from inside of another app? If so then which app? Can you reproduce the issue with Apple Notes?
- On the first attempt, what does 1Password for iOS open to after you unlock it? A random item? Or a different screen?

I check to see if this is fixed with every new MacOS release, and it's still not. Also, what DaBarkle said about having to click on it twice for iOS (the first time to unlock 1Password, the second to get to the item) is a problem I'm experiencing. I don't know how long that's been happening on iOS.
This is something that used to work without fail on MacOS, and it's a big problem, at least for me.

I don't have an ETA that I can share but I've let the team know that this is affecting your workflow as well.
PS/ I, in particular, use Things as a task manager, and it would be great that I dan interact with it also.
Just to clarify, are you putting the private link into Things and then clicking on it from inside of Things? I want to make sure that I communicate your use case accurately to the team. π

I'm experiencing the same issue and I can tell you that on iOS works.
do you have any ETA to fix this? I think it's not a killer feature, but it's really nice si you need to link with task related to items on 1password.
Thanks!

I'm sorry for the impact that the issue is causing. The bug being discussed in this thread should only affect 1Password on macOS, not iOS. Can you confirm that you're seeing the issue on iOS as well?
If you are seeing the issue on iOS then can you tell me the version of both 1Password and iOS you're using? And can you post reproduction steps that I can follow to reproduce the issue on my own device?

Steps for reproduction (works for any 1Password 8 client regardless of OS):
Pre-requisites: The 1Password 8 client must be in a locked state. If 1Password 8 client has been recently unlocked you will not be able to re-produce this. You must wait for the client to reach the lock timer again.
- Open a private link on the device that has 1Password client installed.
- 1Password 8 will open, user enters credentials or FaceId to unlock 1Password
- Once unlocked user will NOT be taken to the item for the private link. Instead they will be presented with the default screen listing items as if they had just opened 1Password normally.
- If the user opens the link again with 1Password now in the unlocked state, they will then be taken to the vault item.
The problem: When opening private links the link needs to be opened twice. Once to unlock 1Password and a second time to actually go to the item.
What should happen: The user should only need to click the link once, enter their credentials then be taken to the item without having to click the link a second time.
Thoughts: This appears to be an oversight since the introduction of 1Password 8 and has been present across a variety of devices I have tested.
The ask: 1Password team establish a timeline for resolution of this issue as little not no progress has been made in years since the introduction of 1Password 8 breaking many workflows within our business and im sure throughout many other business as well. This should be a pretty simple fix( I say this knowing nothing about the design and code structure of 1Password 8). Please give us some sort of tangible commitment to getting this fixed.
