Hi!
There's this new browser called "Zen browser"
It's based on Firefox but the 1password extension doesn't work with the desktop app

Hello folks,

I'm happy to share that you can now add Zen Browser as an additional browser to 1Password for Windows. Follow these steps:

  1. Install 1Password in Zen Browser from the Firefox Browser Add-ons Store
  2. Add Zen Browser as an additional browser to 1Password: Connect additional browsers to the 1Password app

A couple of notes:

  • Make sure that Zen Browser is installed system-wide with admin permissions in the C:\Program Files folder.
  • Zen Browser is not an officially supported browser and you might run into unexpected issues. If you see those same issues with a supported browser like Firefox then let us know by starting a new discussion and we can investigate.

+100 for zen browser

Yet another +1 for Zen Browser. It's genuinely absurd to me that the functionally abandoned, closed source Arc is supported while Zen isn't

please! +1

I even created a 1Password community account only to voice my support and request for adding Zen browser to the "trusted" browser list, or at the very least add the same feature from macOS to Windows as well.

At least give us the threshold as to how many users it requires for Zen to have, to gain the status as trusted. Whatever it is, please let us know.

This seems crazy to me that you still have not supported more than these 4 browsers on windows??

It basically makes 1password useless for me with Zen browser, which I have just started using. And I'm not basing my browser choice on whether my password manager will support my browser.

I'm far more likely to base my password manager choice on whether it supports the browser I use (aka basically every other decent password manager). Seriously considering cancelling my membership when it comes up for renewal in a few months due to this. It does not seem like a complex thing, especially when this post is over 7 months old and has a huge number of people requesting this support, with no reasons as to why you have not implemented this?

Hello everyone!

Thank you all for the continued feedback! For security reasons, the 1Password desktop app will by default only connect to supported browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, Brave, Edge and Arc. If you're using a Mac then you can add Zen Browser as an additional browser to the desktop app:

  1. Open and unlock the 1Password for Mac desktop app.
  2. Click on 1Password next to the  in the menu bar.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Click Browser.
  5. Click Add Browser and choose your browser from the Applications folder.

Adding additional browsers is currently only available for the Mac and Linux. We're not regularly adding new supported browsers individually since that isn't a long-term and sustainable solution however I've shared your requests to support Zen Browser with our product team. We hope to bring the custom browsers feature to 1Password on other platforms (like Windows) in the future.

For the time being, you may still be able to use 1Password in Zen Browser on your Windows PC but you'll need to unlock it separately from the desktop app using your account password.

This is not a solution, Windows does not work.

I was ecstatic when at glance I saw this issue as resolved. But this was a total let-down. I'm sure every single one in this thread was aware of the Mac-only feature of manually adding Zen browser. This is a Windows issue (Linux to some extent, but fortunately there is a workaround).

Can you please remove the "marked as solution" so we can still push for this feature to be implemented on Windows -- or at the very least add Zen Browser as a trusted browser?

It's surprising that Arc is on this list, seeing as it is closed to being abandoned. You already know that Zen is being actively maintained as open-source, based on Firefox (an already approved browser to your standards).

Hey @pillowdiver! Marking a response as a solution doesn’t mean the issue is closed—it's just meant to highlight the most up-to-date answer for anyone coming across the thread.

We won’t be unmarking it, but if anything changes regarding Windows support for custom browsers, we’ll update the Accepted Solution accordingly. 🙂

Made an account just so I can say I've been following this thread for the last 5 months just hoping I could get feature parity across my devices. Really sad to see this marked as a solution. Hope this doesn't mean the team is going to sweep this issue under the rug now that it has been "solved". I just want to be able to use the browser I want without sacrificing functionality in 1password.

Hey @madethisforzenbrowser! Just to clarify, marking a response as a solution doesn’t mean the conversation is closed or that we’re ‘sweeping the issue under the rug' but rather it simply is intended to highlight the most up-to-date answer for anyone coming across the thread.

As mentioned in Dave's response above, the team hopes to bring the custom browser feature to Windows in the future. When this changes, we’ll update the Accepted Solution accordingly. We appreciate the feedback!

Okay, the developers are clearly ignoring feedback here. Why don't you want to add Zen to the supported browsers list?

Why do you not like the Zen browser?

Hey @BeholdThePowerOfNod! We’re definitely not ignoring feedback—we hear you!

The reason we haven’t added Zen Browser (or any other specific browser) is because manually supporting individual browsers isn’t a long-term solution. Instead, the team is working on a feature that will allow users to connect any browser they choose to 1Password. That way, everyone benefits, and we don’t have to add browsers one by one.

February 18, 2025

Okay, that's good!

So, do you have a window on when this feature will be rolled out?
