Hi!
There's this new browser called "Zen browser"
It's based on Firefox but the 1password extension doesn't work with the desktop app

Hello folks,

I'm happy to share that you can now add Zen Browser as an additional browser to 1Password for Windows. Follow these steps:

  1. Install 1Password in Zen Browser from the Firefox Browser Add-ons Store
  2. Add Zen Browser as an additional browser to 1Password: Connect additional browsers to the 1Password app

A couple of notes:

  • Make sure that Zen Browser is installed system-wide with admin permissions in the C:\Program Files folder.
  • Zen Browser is not an officially supported browser and you might run into unexpected issues. If you see those same issues with a supported browser like Firefox then let us know by starting a new discussion and we can investigate.

Just wanted to drop in and say I would really love this feature to be implemented! I've used Zen full time for the last 6 months and everything has been perfect except for 1password!

Frankly its making me rethink my family subscription since it's so disruptive and isolates the browser from the desktop app 😞.  It might be time for me to move on, because I don't plan to drop Zen.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I can definitely see the benefits of adding official support for the Zen browser and have forwarded your feedback to our team. Although I can't make any promises, every request is reviewed by the team and taken into consideration when planning the roadmap ahead.

Literally made an account just to add to the list of people clamoring for this feature. The fact that there still isn't feature parity between Mac and Windows is incredibly frustrating. Arc is listed as an approved browser, and TBC has essentially ended support for it outside of Chromium updates. Zen is actively being developed and improved, and is the clear replacement.

If you're not able to give a timeline on when custom browser support will be launched for Windows, at least add Zen as a trusted browser so ex-Arc users aren't left out to dry by both TBC and 1password.

Thank you for the feedback. I understand your need to be able to use app integration with 1Password and Zen Browser on Windows. Hopefully we'll have more news to share in the future.

Super disappointed there's no way to make it work on Zen + Windows. If there’s no update by the time my annual renewal hits, I’ll have to start looking for a new password manager.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get a refund on the annual subscription if I decide to cancel early?

Welcome to the community! While you can use 1Password in Zen Browser on Windows, you'll need to unlock it using your account password separately from the desktop app. I've passed your feedback regarding app integration to the team. You can find details on 1Password's refund policy here

It's been two years since this issue was first reported, and it's still not resolved. I still have to enter my 24-character-long password twice every time I work on my Windows PC. What's even more frustrating is that the 1Password team continues to support the Arc browser—which doesn't even function properly on Windows and has essentially been abandoned.

Thank you for the feedback, I've shared your comments with the team internally! For the time being you could consider adjusting auto-lock so that you're prompted to unlock 1Password in Zen Browser less often as long as you don't restart your PC or close your browser: Manage auto-lock in the 1Password browser extension

If you have a TPM installed in your Windows PC then you can use Windows Hello to unlock the desktop app (instead of your account password) even after restarting your PC: Use Windows Hello to unlock 1Password on your Windows PC

Respectfully, that setting does not solve the issue the user is facing. When you start your pc, you have to enter the password or windows hello login. Then when you start the browser you then are forced to enter the password again because the extension inside Zen cannot communicate to the application installed on the PC. That is the whole point of this thread. And you answered this 9 days ago to the user xxivdci

+1 for me too. With Arc discontinued I am starting to move over to Zen Browser. I don't want to have to sign in twice. I don't understand why with Arc discontinued the 1Password team would support it but not Zen, especially given Zen is built on Firefox.

This is the kind of thing that will make me look elsewhere when my 1Password subscription is up.

Hey,
Just so you know, my subscription just expired (it seems like the billing cycle messed up, but that's another issue).
I just set up a self-hosted Bitwarden and I have desktop integration with Zen (in addition to keeping features like TOTP and SSH keys). Now, I don't really see the point of staying with 1Password.
So there you have it, you've potentially lost a loyal customer who brought you others. I'll give myself a week to decide, but I already have a pretty good idea.
This thread has been open for too long and nothing has been done (except for the fact that “the feedback has been sent to the team”).
I understand that a more sustainable solution needs to be implemented for browser management, but I'm sure that adding Zen's fingerprint in addition to the others (including Arc on Windows, the worst browser currently available on Windows, as well as being completely discontinued) would have taken less time and would have been a good compromise while this new solution was being developed.
This situation gives the impression that 1Password doesn't really care about its customers and would rather sponsor an F1 team instead (which, by the way, isn't winning anymore).

Until then, bye 1Password

At this point it's a pretty clear indicator that additional browser support for Windows isn't going to happen, and that non-enterprise customers don't matter to 1Password.

We're not currently adding new supported browsers since that isn't a long-term and sustainable solution.

I just want to point out that, despite 1Password saying that they don't, they still do add new browsers. They just added support for the Comet Browser in the latest nightly build.

Don't get me wrong, I'm currently using Comet, and it's great to have this feature working with it now, so I'm not complaining about that. But, you are clearly not bringing the Custom Trusted Browsers feature to Windows anytime soon, so why not whitelist Zen as well in the meantime? It has over 35k+ stars on GitHub and, as we can see here in this thread, there is demand. It's open-source and based on Firefox. I just don't get it.

It's sad because despite loving 1Password otherwise, I'm starting to consider leaving it behind because of this. I don't know of any other popular password managers that do this. I pay good money and want to use the browser extension to it's fullest with the browser of my choice, without buying a Mac or switching to Linux.

Thanks for pointing out that they are supporting Comet on the nightly build of the extension. I'm running it now and it's working well.

+1 for the feature implementation on Windows like on MacOS.
Is there a beta branch or something available where we can test this feature? It's really frustrating for a user on both MacOS and Windows to have different workflows on each system.

cheers!

@laschii

Thank you for the request, I've shared it with the team. It's not currently possible to add unsupported browsers to 1Password for Windows using either the production or beta version, it's a feature that still has to be built by our development team.

@1P_Dave If this is a 'yet to be developed' feature, which it sounds like it is, then 1Password should continue to support the old 'manual' vetting process for browsers until you are able to provide another solution.  Currently your Windows-based customers have no solution to this problem.

August 27, 2025

One more +1 for this feature. I use Zen on Windows every day at work since it's Firefox based.
Reading the "solution" at the top is really confusing since it's restricted to Mac - and reading about support for Comet having been added to the nightly build is even more confusing.

This should be highly prioritized, @1P_Dave. Thanks!
