Why is the Chrome Extension buggy and slow now?

Mac Studio M1, Tahoe 26.6.2, Chrome Version 152.0.7977.84 (Official Build) (arm64).

Chrome browser extension now is suuuper slow to load. When it does load, unlocking doesn’t result in autofill options popping up (usually). And it crashes about as often as it works.

Things are now marginally better after I turned off all the new universal login/autofill stuff. Still marked performance decrease though.

Before sending this msg, I have deleted the Chrome extension and reinstalled, uninstalled and reinstalled 1password app using appcleaner. Problems persist.

Any idea what’s going on? Is a fix on the way?

Hello folks,

We’re aware of an issue in Chromium based browsers (like Chrome and Microsoft Edge) where 1Password can run into performance issues resulting in problems opening the pop-up from the toolbar or filling your login credentials. The issue has been reported to the Chromium team and we’re currently waiting for a fix, please see this post for details: Chromium issue: Extension pop-up delayed or not opening

I’ll close this thread as a duplicate so that we can keep the conversation in the other thread.

I got the same issue and it’s really annoying. I’m finding a way to revert to old version btw

I’m seeing the same kind of reports from other users as well. Since you’ve already reinstalled both the extension and the 1Password app, it may be worth checking whether there are any recent updates or known issues with this Chrome extension version. Hopefully someone from the 1Password team can confirm what is causing the crashes and slow loading.

Hi @AlanSeptoff, @longlhh90, and @1passvault! Our developers are currently investigating some reported performance issues with the 1Password extension in Chrome.

If you’re able, could you reproduce the issue, then create and share a 1Password diagnostics report from the extension:

Send a diagnostics report (browser extension)

Attach the diagnostics to an email message addressed to: support@1password.com

With your email please include:

You’ll receive a reply with a Support ID number. Post that number here. Thanks!

Thank you. I will send diagnostic reports as I encounter problems. Although they’re happening less frequently with autofill turned off.

Will you please notify us on this thread when the problem is resolved?

Best,

Alan

Hi @AlanSeptoff, thanks for letting me know!

At the moment there seem to be a couple of different problems, so we’ll need to investigate each case separately. Once you’ve emailed in, our team will work on identifying exactly what you’re running into. Once it’s linked to a known issue, they’ll be able to make a note for someone to reach out to you once it’s resolved.

I’m having the same issue. Sending over diagnostics too. It takes about 20-30 seconds from clicking the extension icon for it to load

Hi @mikeytag, I’m sorry to hear that you’re running into this as well. I can confirm that we’ve received your ticket, and a member of the team will send you a reply via email as soon as possible.

For my case, I think it’s because of the chrome itself. When I open the chrome using this comment it seems to work fine

  1. Close chrome completely

  2. Open a Terminal (Finder -> Utilities -> Terminal

  3. Write this command: open -na "Google Chrome" --args --enable-features=PMLoadingPageVoter --restore-last-session

Hi @longlhh90, thanks for sharing your findings here! To confirm, was this slowness happening with other extensions as well as 1Password, and has this command resolved it for everything that was affected?

September 17, 2026

yes, in my case only. At first I thought it was just 1password extension but then all other extensions got the same issue. I ran the command and they all are responsive again.

I’m having the same issue with my MacBook Pro and would love to see a fix!
