4 years ago1Password 8 keeps stealing focus on Mac
Ever since 1Password 8 came out of beta, every update causes the app to start randomly stealing focus. For example, if I'm working one window and then click into Chrome, 1Password will pop up on top. It's very disruptive and distracting. Quitting the app does not fix it, as I will still see 1Password stealing focus, there is just no window. It seems to usually be fixed by Force Quitting 1Password, but the next time it updates it starts happening again.
I also noticed that even though I changed 1Password to use the Production update channel several updates ago, it still says I'm on BETA (80800094).

I know this is an old thread, but I'm having this problem now as well. It reoccurs intermittently. So far, I've been unable to identify the cause, but usually a restart will fix it.
To be more specific about the problem:
1Password quick access is running and showing in the menu bar. I have the 1Password extension install in my browser (Arc, which is Chrome based). What happens when I switch focus back to Arc is that the 1Password app launches and steals focus from Arc. However, it doesn't open a window (at least not on top) - 1Password is in the background, but it has focus, so typing doesn't have the expected effect in Arc.I assume that this is somehow related to the connection between the 1Password browser extension and the desktop app, but there are no notification or errors to tell me what the problem is, and everything (quick access, desktop app, and the browser extension) is otherwise functioning correctly.

Came here because of the exact same problem. I thought it was my doing because I have my 1Password running on Sequoia 15.6.1 on an old MBP9,2 Ivy Bridge (thanks OpenCore Legacy Patcher!!) and it started this exact behavior a couple days ago. Using this thread and another here is how I fixed it (with thanks to Anonymous below, and 1P_Dave in this thread: https://www.1password.community/discussions/1password/1password-browser-helper-wont-quit/27335/replies/27336)
- Open and unlock the 1Password application.
- Click on 1Password next to the Apple logo in the menu bar.
- Click on Settings.
- Click on Browser.
- Turn off "Connect with 1Password in the browser".
- Close and Quit the 1Password application
- Open the "Activity Monitor" utility and kill any lingering processes related to "1Password"
- Make sure the process "1Password Browser Helper" isn't running (it can't be killed or Force Quit), if it is go back to step 1 and try again.
- Open 1Password and check for updates using Check for Updates... in the 1Password menu
- Click on Settings in the 1Password menu again
- Click on Browser.
- Re-check the checkbox for "Connect with 1Password in the browser"
Hopefully it works for you too.

I thought I had it fixed but 8.10.9 keeps popping and coming to front focus at random times, often multiple times per minute. Makes working, and especially typing impossible. This is with Safari 16.6 (extension 2.14.1) and Firefox 116.0.3 (extension 2.13.0). I may have to delete 1Password extensions from all my browsers in order to get anything done. MacOS 13.5 (M1) so everything is up to date and it still keeps occurring.
