1password 8 Search now always searches all vaults. How to make it search only selected vault
When I have selected a particular vault, I want results only from that vault. But I dont know how to restrict the universal search bar to search only in the selected vault. I have backup vaults and old vaults. The items with the same name are appearing from all vaults and I am getting confusing.
One the other issue, the vault that i have selected does not remain in focus too.

I am sorry for not being clear. Nothing is being destroyed here, this is a new continent and everything is being built from scratch.
The search is currently performed across all vaults (or the active collection of vaults). However, it is not a finished product at this point. You are looking at the very first, early access build of 1Password. There will be a lot more focus on search improvements in the future updates and we'll do our best to make sure your use case is covered.

EnerJi I think what roustem is saying is that the functionality to search within the vault existed which is what I am asking again here. He is saying that since many users also wanted to search across the vaults he decided to remove the existing function of searching within the vault. He is saying that he will remove what was working for others if any new requirements come his way. It's like there was a road to the garden and it was ok for many people. But some people also wanted another road that connects many gardens. So he decides to destroy all existing roads that worked for others. It's like if you want cake you cannot have bread. I don't understand the logic of 1password product managers.

Interesting that for many years this is exactly what 1Password used to do — the search was based on what is currently selected in the sidebar. After many years of feedback, our users finally convinced us that the search should be performed everywhere! I believe that how it worked for least the past 5-6 years?
FYI, just tested on 1PW7 for Mac, and search is restricted to the specific vault I have selected in the top-left unless I'm in the "All Vaults" view.

roustem Boss. It is not that you do this vs that. Both cases are valid. Allow users to search across and within the vault. It’s like mail accounts. You can search across gmail + yahoo or just within yahoo. Listening to feedback does not mean removing what was working for others. This is not rocket science and a 100 yr research program to design search behaviour . It’s common sense and learning from email clients.

The lack of definition of “all vaults” in the 1Password 8 beta is the blocker for me. I used the “include in all vaults” checkbox to limit what would be searched (which makes sense).
I have vaults that act as archives that I do not want searched by default, but only if I switch to them. (I have been experimenting with the “archive” functionality on the web but do not particularly like it.)

We are currently working on adding more advanced search options and will make sure it is covered there.

Please default search to the selected vault!
