I find 1Password invaluable and would like to use the password generator more often. However, it turns out that the passwords that it generates don't make it into the paste buffer with "Save & Copy"...

It is interesting to read the May 27th comment from Dave_1P about version 8, 'the latest and greatest'. Four and a half months later, here is how great the number of steps is, to generate a new password in the 1Password app, according to another forum user:
In macOS Monterey 12.6 and the 1Password 8.9.4 application one can generate a new password by:
opening the 1Password application
clicking the "+ New Item" button
clicking "Login" under "Get Started"
clicking in the "Password" field
clicking "Create a New Password"
clicking "Use"
copying the password from the "password" field
clicking the "X" in the upper right corner of the "New Item" box
clicking "Discard Changes"
exiting 1Password
The new password is on the clipboard for pasting wherever it is needed.
That is indeed the greatest number of steps that I have ever seen for generating a new password. I think 1Password can do better in ease of use for generating passwords within the 1Password app. But it seems like you don't want to. It was much easier in version 7. But as Dave_1P says above, if we want updates, we have to use version 8, even though it lacks many of the useful features of version 7.
