1Password for Safari not working correctly in macOS 15.6.1 and Safari 18
The title says it all. I see the issue is discussed in other places. Opening a site in a new tab does not fix, restarting Safari does not fix for me. Reinstalling 1Password for Safari doesn't fix...

When I open Safari, and occasionally while using, 1Password extension is not functional. It will not fill in logins and passwords, and the window will not open when I click the icon. If I manually go into Safari settings and deselect, then reselect the extension, it works again, temporarily. When not functioning and trying to fill a password/login, the extension uses very high CPU (100-300%!!) until I reset extension in settings. Restarting Safari does not change this behavior, in fact opening Safari again after quitting reproduces the problem. Reinstalling 1Password for Safari doesn't change the behavior. Rebooting my Mac does not fix the problem. The main application still works. The problem began for me, I think with OS update 15.5 and continues with 15.6 and 15.6.1. I have not reinstalled the OS and am reluctant to. Anyway, extension behavior is very annoying and makes its use in Safari mostly nonfunctional.

4 months agoThank you for the reply. I'd like to ask a few more questions so that I can better understand what might be causing the issue:
- Which version of 1Password for Safari are you currently using?
- Did you recently migrate to your current Mac from a previous Mac?
- Are you using an Apple Silicon or Intel-based Mac? You can check by clicking on the Apple menu in the menu bar > About This Mac
I look forward to hearing from you.

I may have discovered my problem. I use an app called Cookie that deletes caches, trackers, etc. from "non-favorite" sites when Safari closes. If I enable 1Password for Safari in Cookie as a "favorite", so its caches are no longer deleted, the extension seems to be working (more) normally. We'll see, I guess.

Thank you for sharing your findings with the community! Let us know if the issue continues even after the mitigation steps that you've taken in the Cookie app.

Well, my "solution" with Cookie no longer works. 1Password for Safari now routinely disconnects after quitting and then reopening Safari. I have to go into Safari settings, uncheck, then recheck the 1Password extension, which works until the next time. Sometimes, it also becomes unresponsive mid-session in safari, and I have to repeat uncheck/check extension. Very annoying.

- 1Password for Safari 8.11.8
- No. It is a 2019 iMac
- Intel. I do have an M4 MacBook and have not had this issue on it.
- as I mentioned, I can temporarily restore the extension functionality by deselecting/reselecting the extension in Safari settings.
