1Password Passkey Unlock (Production Release)

I understand reasoning for not announcing specific dates. On the other hand, what about realistic long term timeframes (6,12,18, 24 months) 😏 ? Just wishing πŸ™‚

I'm sorry for the delay in replying. We've extended the trial for all passkey unlock beta accounts. If your account didn't receive the extension then please send an email to support@1Password.com and include a link to this thread and our team can help further.

I am here for the same reason

I found a blog post from 2023 when this entered beta, I hate to be negative but uh, is everything OK over there?

Any updates on when the option to unlock 1Password with a passkey will be available?

Thanks for reaching out. While I don't have any news to share, I'll let the team know that you're both eager to see passkey unlock be released out of the public beta.

Regarding use in an organization, I'd recommend taking a look at SSO unlock since it offers more control for administrators: Get started with 1Password Unlock with SSO

I am a paying family pack user with 1password looking for Passkey-unlock as well, and not in a special beta trial account

Did you share these requests with your team or whatever?  What did they say?

  • I have been using the free beta version that supports unlocking 1Password with a passkey. I received an email informing me that I must pay the invoice for 1Password next week. I am happy to pay for it as long as I do not lose the ability to unlock 1Password with a passkey. Am I forced to get the non-beta version that does not have this feature?

      Hello,

our company is also waiting eagerly for this feature to go live. I've also read the linked article and I can understand that there are some fundamental issues that have to be solved first. That being said, in my opinion there is way to few information about your progress on this topic compared to the way you announced the beta over a year ago, there was little to no information about this even for people that read your blog and are subscribed to your passwordless newsletter.

Also I disagree a bit with the fundamentalness of the issues you describe in that article. Questions 1 and 4 "What do you do if you lose your 'one passkey'?" and "Where do you even put your 'one passkey'" are really not that different for the current password solution. I mean 1password also does not provide a solution where people should store their password to unlock their account, then why should 1password provide a solution for the passkey? People will use their phone or whatever. That should be up to them when they decide to switch on passkey unlocking. It's not like this is going to be mandatory for everyone.

Also, even if you still have issues that are not solved. Why don't you put similar restrictions to passkey usage like you do for SSO usage (i. e. anyone can use it except the owners of the account). That way companies can already start rolling it out for a group of users without being able to mess up everything due to a switch to passkey unlocking.

And another question would be: Can't unlock with passkeys be used in parallel to using passwords? So if you lose the passkey you can still use the password like you did before. I mean that's basically how most other services provide it.

I'm not a security expert, so probably I'm overseeing a couple of security concerns. But the main issue which is that there is not enough information on the progress is true anyways. So please, at least try to improve that.

Its been more that 2 years dloopmb :-) I agree with you, it relies on guesswork what is holding this back. It could be missing features in the ecosystems (e.g. Apple) that are required for a smooth UX?
