1Password Quicksearch and Autofill Not Working

So on MacOS Sonoma 14.0, if I unselect "Keep 1Password in the Menu Bar" option, then quick search fails to open (by invoking shortcut). In websites 1Password fails to autofill, prompt for password comes up, which I enter, then 1Password disappears but no autofill happens. Clicking the 1password icon to the right of username/password fields doesn't show the available items to use from 1password either. Once I show 1Password in the menu bar everything works as expected again.

1Password Version: 8.10.16
Extension Version: 2.15.1
OS Version: macOS 14.0
Browser: Safari 17.0

  • Hello donileo! 👋

Thank you for writing in. In order for the 1Password desktop app to keep running in the background even when the main window is closed, and continue to make keyboard shortcuts available for use, you need to keep 1Password in the menu bar. Since 1Password is critical security software that stores your most important information, it will only run in the background if the menu bar icon is turned on so that users are always aware when 1Password is open and potentially unlocked on their Mac.

In websites 1Password fails to autofill, prompt for password comes up, which I enter, then 1Password disappears but no autofill happens.

This is a known issue that our developers are tracking and I've added your report to the internal work item open with the team. For now, the best workaround for this second issue is to either keep the menu bar icon turned on (the best option) or turn on unlock with Touch ID: Use Touch ID to unlock 1Password on your Mac

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. Let me know if you have any questions.

In regards to the menu item, maybe it would then be a good idea to note that the 1password keyboard shortcut will fail to work, right below the checkbox. With this users will know of this fact without having to come here to ask.
