Annoyed at number of interactions required to autofill
So in my experience so far with 1Password 8, it takes many more interactions to autofill when your vault is locked:
1Password 7:
Hit command-slash
Touch ID prompt appears automatically, just touch finger to Touch ID to unlock
Password autofills automatically
(2 interactions)
1Password 8:
Hit command-slash
1Password window pops up to enter password, you have to click a button to enable Touch ID, then touch the sensor
The browser extension doesn't automatically detect that 1P is unlocked so you have to click the extension, then click "Open 1Password." It takes a few seconds, then unlocks.
Now that it's unlocked, you can hit command-slash again to autofill
(6 interactions)

I'm seeing different behavior depending on if 1Password is locked or not when you hit Cmd+\
Unlocked: Cmd+\, Autofill or Suggestions work as expected.
Locked: Cmd+\, 1Password prompts for password, Quick Access opens, but there are no suggestions or autofill choices.
1P_PeterG I'm getting the same issue as the original OP again since the 8.7.0 update, after previously having the issue resolved upon upgrading to the 1Password 8 beta. Whereas previously the trigger would open the login/password card after successfully authenticating with Touch ID, now the sequence is: Trigger>Touch ID>Trigger (again)>Fill. Any insight on this regression?
I appreciate the detailed explanation regarding your experience.
I can be available for a zoom call, where I can demonstrate my experience with 1 password 7 and 1 password 8. Let me know if you are interested in that, and provide me with some direct contact info so that I can send you a zoom link.
I have reached out to our user experience research group to see if this is something they can facilitate.
with 1 Password 7 I press command-\, select the correct set of credentials from those that are offered, select "autofill" and bam! creds are populated and I hit enter to log in.
This is what happens for me with 1Password 8 as well. I believe a lot of your pain can be resolved with some troubleshooting by our technical support team. If you're up for that, please see this post for the details on facilitating that. It sounds to me like the communication between the desktop app and the browser extension is not happening as expected, and that is why you're having a degraded experience. We'd like to get that sorted for you.
and ended up with these 1password logos all over my web pages when trying to log into stuff.
They're intended to be there to help, particularly for customers who prefer to interact with their computer with a mouse. If you'd prefer to turn that off, we can walk you through that. There is a level of granularity with that as well. For example, you can set it such that the inline menu doesn't open automatically, but it still available with a click, or you can disable it entirely. Those settings are available by right clicking on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar, selecting settings, and then review the options in the "autofill" section:
Jack_P_1P That is an interesting question... I have been using 1Paasword for years - easily since before 3.x. When I was using 7.x and the recent 1password for Safari thing came out I was pretty confused. I don't need 1Password to impose things on the fields of my web pages. I just want to press command-\ and have a dropdown form the menu bar let me pick a username/password. Anyway, I installed the 1password for Safari thing, which seemed different than the traditional extension, and ended up with these 1password logos all over my web pages when trying to log into stuff. Annoyingly, even when 1Password 7 (the application was on screen and unlocked) the 1password for Safari thing would still remain locked. I would have to unlock it separately. Fast forward to today and I have put the beta for 1Password 8 on my personal Mac. I have removed version 7, with all it's ancillary bits as near as I can tell. Now I get the floating action palette thing - it looks like Spotlight and seems less functional than the v7 1Password menubar extension.
When I open a web page and am presented with an option to log in: with 1 Password 7 I press command-\, select the correct set of credentials from those that are offered, select "autofill" and bam! creds are populated and I hit enter to log in.
With 1Password 8, I press command-\, and now I have to type in the name of the credentials to find them. Then my only option is to "open and fill" instead of "autofill". This opens the web page in a new window and more often than not fails to auto fill the credentials. I end up having to copy the username, paste it in, press command-\ again, copy the password and paste it in.
I am generally unhappy with version 8. I realize it is the future, so I am sticking with it, but I will say that if you add friction to my daily procedure of recalling credentials, I am going to go find another product. The way it is today sucks.

I'm sorry it isn't working as expected. It doesn't sound like 1Password 8 is communicating with the browser extension in your case. To get us started troubleshooting that, please check on Jack's question above:
Once you've confirmed you've got the correct browser extension installed and enabled, please right click on the extension icon in your browser's toolbar, and select settings. In the extension settings turn on the 'integrate with 1Password app' setting if it is not on. Then, in the 1Password 8 app, open 1Password > Preferences > Browser and enable the 'connect with 1Password in the browser.' If you're still having trouble after enabling those settings, we'd need to take a look at the logs to see why the two aren't talking.
To generate a diagnostic report from 1Password 8, select 1Password > Preferences > Advanced > Send Diagnostics. We'll also want to see the log from the extension side. Instructions for gathering that can be found here:
Overall not impressed with the direction things are going. Too much friction. I hope this goes back to the 1password 7 style menu bar extension. there was nothing wrong with that.
Jack_P_1P yeah... that is not happening
I press command-\ or option-command-\ and I get the spotlight style quick find tool which is all but useless. The best it can do is open a window with the password I want so that I can copy and paste the details, one at a time into the webpage.

That definitely doesn't sound like the experience we want you to have. Just to confirm, do you have either 1Password for Safari if you're using Safari, or 1Password in the browser if you're using one of our other supported browsers?
With 1Password in your browser, pressing ⌘ + \ should show the dropdown on the login field of the website you're on. Let me know, and I can dig in further with you!
