Hello again stretch1a - thanks for the clarification.

The 1Password 8 .exe installer automatically installs to %LOCALAPPDATA%\1Password. We don't currently offer a method of changing the default install location for 1Password.

Could you elaborate on your use case and why the ability to install 1Password to an external drive is helpful to you? I'd be happy to send any feedback you have along to the Product team for consideration.
