Browser Beta: Feedback regarding the new sign-in experience
So I was suddenly being upgraded to this new experience today, however, it does not seems to be appearing on the https://releases.1password.com/b5x/beta/#changelog.
I guess making the login selection up above resolves one very specific issue - sometimes it can annoying to have 1P prompting under a text box, especially when filling in forms. But I don't think this new design is the answer.
Main issue - Long mouse travel - Instead of just flicking my mouse to choose my account, I now have to move my mouse all the way top to click it, which is never a trade off I would take to fix the "filling in the form" issue.
Secondly, it was not visually better to have a much larger pop up blocking my web view whenever I am logging in.
Hi richardevs, antiost! Thank you both for your feedback on the sign on experience that's being tested in beta and nightly versions of 1Password.
I hear you on the mouse travel time, and that's certainly something the team is thinking on as we test this feature. Your comments have been shared with the team. You can disable the Sign in with Universal Sign On setting under Settings > Autofill & save in the browser extension, or switch to the production version if you'd like to return to the previous sign on behaviour. Let us know if you have any other questions or feedback and thanks again!

And for additional context, this is the version I'm running all on macOS devices: 1Password for Mac 8.12.0 (81200013, on PRODUCTION channel).

Hi ChrisC1P
Thanks but as an Org, we don't use the AutoFill feature (I certainly don't) in order to adhere to best security practices. As you can see in the screenshot, this was turned off but it hasn't stopped this pop-up from popping up.
Please is this what you want me to do or something else?
Because if it is, it has been "Off" (like forever). Thanks for the help!

Hi zondi thanks for getting back to me.
The setting I'm referring to is in the 1Password browser extension rather than the 1Password desktop app. Can you try the steps I suggested again but this time, right-click the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar rather than in the Mac menu bar? I'll repeat them for you below:
- Right-click the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and select 'Settings'.
- Click on 'Autofill & save' in the lefthand menu.
- Toggle off the 'Sign in with Universal Sign On' option.
Here's what it should look like:
Let me know how it goes!

Description:
We are experiencing a significant workflow disruption due to the automatic "Open 1Password" login prompt that appears when attempting to log into websites. This feature is particularly problematic on sites with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or .htaccess protection, where it interferes with the login process and adds an unnecessary step.
We have an irrational dislike for this specific feature as it hinders our workflow without providing tangible benefits in our specific use cases.
Reference:
A screenshot illustrating the prompt.
Request:
Please, can anyone provide an option to completely disable this automatic login prompt? Ideally, this would be a global setting within 1Password or an option to prevent it from appearing on specific sites. We want to avoid this prompt entirely to streamline our login procedures.

This prompt generally works well for me, but there are definitely some sites where it just...sticks around doing nothing which is super annoying.

Sorry, this is not about "Open 1Password". Rather it is about the meaningless pop-up.

Hi zondi thanks for reaching out!
The pop-up you're seeing is the new Universal Sign On feature which you can turn off with the following steps:
- Right-click the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and select 'Settings'.
- Click on 'Autofill & save' in the lefthand menu.
- Toggle off the 'Sign in with Universal Sign On' option.
As for the sites where the Universal Sign On doesn't work smoothly, can you share the URLs where you ran into issues so I can do some testing on my end?

I've been struggling with the new the new overlay since it has been introduced in beta. I can second a lot of experiences other people reported here. What's most annoying for me:
- It's somehow missing entries which are shown in the "old" popup next to the input
- 90% of the time it does not get that the login process has been finished, so i need to close it explicitly
- need to move my mouse a lot more
Anyway thanks for testing new ways. I think that's the only way to find out what works the best. People using the beta channels should not expect everything to be polished. - luckman212Frequent Contributor
The new floating bubble in 1P Nightly browser extension "looks nice" but is anti-keyboard.
The old version allowed your hands to stay at the keys (down/up arrow, <ENTER> to confirm sign-in).
Now we are forced to reach for the mouse.
PLEASE be kind to keyboard users and support a hotkey to cycle thru the logins and then confirm all without using the mouse, or a way to bring back the old behavior.

Hi luckman212 👋
Thanks for being brave and using the Nightly! I've passed along your feedback to the team working on the new sign-in experience and the team is looking into it.

- It doesn't work
- It's extremely bad UX
- It's at the top of the window, far away from the input field - I have to move the mouse all the way up and back down to the input field.
- It picks the wrong usernames/passwords
- It doesn't work
- It doesn't go away after a sign-in
- It's the most annoying and infuriating change in the history of software
- It keeps asking me if a login was successful. No, it wasn't,
- It doesn't work.
- For all that's holy, remove it.
- It's unnecessary
- Nobody asked for it
- It's inconsistent. Because the old flow is still there, too.
- Seriously. w t beep.

Hi cryptochrome, thanks for sharing this feedback. To start, you can turn Universal Sign On off from autofill settings:
- Right click the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar
- Select Settings > Autofill & save
- Turn Sign in with Universal Sign On off.
I'd also be happy to pass along your comments to the team. Could you let me know which browser you're using as well as which version of 1Password in the browser? Additionally, could you share any additional details about what isn't working when you mentioned it doesn't work?

Hi Timoty,
using Chrome 145.0.7632.5 on macOS 26.2, 1P extension version 8.11.27.1.
What doesn't work is that the universal sign-in modal often does not disappear after I sign in. I have to dismiss it manually. This could be related to the the "Sign-in automatically after autofill" setting, which is turned off on my end. It seems to expect auto-sign-in and when that doesn't happen, it waits forever. Just a hunch, though.
Sometimes it disappears automatically; sometimes it doesn't. I have yet to find a pattern for this.

I second that, very annoying overlay. We should be able to choose which prompt to use. Both bloats the whole experience

It also looks completely different from the rest of the 1P UI. It looks and feels and behaves like a foreign object somebody slapped onto 1P without thinking twice. Very inconsistent.
