3 years agoCan’t sort fields anymore
While in 1Password 7 we talked about the possibility to sort the sections of an item (see https://1password.community/discussion/114351/is-it-possible-to-change-the-order-of-the-sections) I realized that in 1Password 8 you even removed the option of changing the order of the single fields within a section! 😱
Please tell me that this is only a bug and will be fixed in one of the upcoming releases. For me it’s really important to be able to at least move fields within a section. Luckily, in the current iOS app it’s still possible. But please bring it back to the Mac desktop application as well.

Hi folks, just want to let you know that I have added votes on your behalf for the ability to change the order of fields in an item. 👍 And as I mentioned previously, this is already something we're working on including in a future update to the app. Thanks for letting us know why this change is important to you.

More than 4 years ago I was compaining that despite being able to reorder individual fields in Edit mode, it was not possible to reorder sections. In items containing much data this was painful to overcome ...in the end, I removed all details that did not require obscuring and placed them into the notes section, using copy-and-paste from external templates to achieve some level of consistent formatting. Then there was the sheer waste of horizontal space that meant browsing items required considerable scrolling to get at pertinent information.
Well, Agilebits have surpassed themselves this time. Editing items no longer allows any kind of re-ordering of fields or sections making it virtually impossible to achieve consistency amongst previously created items or those imported into 1Password. Furthermore, rather than provide a rich-text editor one has to faff around with Markdown even though the content is not destined for publishing externally.
Please can someone explain to me how knee-capping the editing functionality is anything other than a step backwards.

Sadly, I find this a very, very bad design decision - ordering fields is absolutely crucial for me with longer items (and what I think is a very basic feature). Please add me definitely +1 to the voters list of this feature.

PeterG_1P, I appreciate all the work you folks have put into a great product. I recommend 1PW all the time to my friends who can't either remember their passwords or use password for their password. I've been using 1pw since version 3 and have enjoyed all the increased functionality over the years.
There are always glitches with a new release, but the reduction of some functions and the difficulty I'm having with this release just disappoints me. Here's an example, in version 7 if I unlocked 1pw and kept working on my computer, key stroking, 1pw would remain open within my time constraints and be ready when I needed it either in an app or browser. Now having 1pw app running and open and having to log into the browser extension is inconvenient and having it lock once I left the tab/window is disruptive.
Furthermore, accessing the menu icon (top right corner) to open settings (normally would use Preferences) and turn off auto lock in each browser is really #$&*ty. The sad thing is, turning off auto lock in Safari doesn't work. To add insult to injury, using the menu icon used to work for desktop apps like Zoom, now there is no icon and the Pin to Screen function is gone unless you're working in the desktop app itself.
I could go on, but not going to. I think I've made my point and if not, send me a private email.

That's a very interesting statement from dteare since less is more is when you're telling an employee to do more work with less resources or trying to help a hoarder. It should also be when you have bugs in a program that need to be removed or repaired. Never for features in am application that is used everyday multiple times by thousands of customers who rely on their workflow to get things done.

Hi @mischnu and @electricarts, thanks for this question. I'm happy to help!
Our founder dteare was actually just discussing this re-ordering fields question over in the Desktop Betas forum. Here's the quote in its entirety:
the latest release does not have support for reordering fields. This is something we're actively exploring and I expect will be added in the not-to-distant future. While a lot of work remains, I wanted to share that the design team has designed how this feature will look and feel and the dev team has gotten things far enough along that I was able to see a video of it in action. Again, I need to stress a lot of work remains and this will not be included in the immediate future, but I wanted to share that it has bubbled up on our priority list.
As for "why", reordering of fields was something we deliberately left out of 1Password 8 during the design process as we were hoping to simplify things. I was hopeful that we could win with a "less is more" approach but I found myself missing this feature as much as you are. I'm happy that we tried and I'm happy that we changed our minds. Live and learn. 🙏
I hope this provides some insight on where we're coming from.
We also really appreciate you letting us know that this is a feature you found useful. We take the feedback seriously, and I have added votes for a
re-order fieldsfeature on (both) your behalf.ref: IDEA-I-372
We'll keep the updates coming and hope that improvements to come will delight you. 😃

I have the same problem. I have tried desperately to sort or move custom fields in the order. Will this functionality come back?
