Can phone fields get automatically formatted - a feature request?

It would be nice of a phone number, entered as a run of digits, could get automatically formatted to match a user preference. Presently a phone field goes in as a run of straight text (digits), and a user has to add spaces and delimiters that match their preferences.

Would be great if there was a preference for how you wanted phone numbers formatted as well as a default country code to use.

These delimiters are recognized by an iPhone when the number is copied out to use for a phone call. I can't verify for the "Call" dropdown.
