Date picker doesn't allow selecting year, and is hard to use with keyboard

When I add something with a date field, if I tab into the date field, my typing is ignored. I have to click once in the date field to bring up the date picker, then click again to dismiss it, and the...

Thank you for sharing your experience! I can see how more options for date selection while using the date picker - such as the ability to select the year - could be beneficial. I've gone ahead an submitted a feature request for additional options when using the date picker, as well as a request for more consistency when typing in date-related fields.
